Abstract
A packaging container is closed by affixing a lid 74 by means of a double seam 152 to a container body 70. The lid has a diameter slightly smaller than usual, so that a radial gap 104 is formed around the drift wall 122 of the lid, and the side wall 72 of the body is deformed into this gap for formation of a neck 76. The lid is affixed first on the container body, so that a sealable boundary surface 142, which is maintained through the seam-forming process, is formed between the said parts. The container body and/or the lid may be of plastic or metal or a laminated material. In the case of aseptic packaging processes a primary seal is formed at the boundary surface 142 under sterile conditions, and the seam is then formed under non-sterile conditions. <IMAGE>
