Abstract
In cascade refrigeration systems using CO2 as effective refrigerant in a highly advantageous manner there are severe problems with respect to defrosting in freezer equipments calling for operative defrosting, e.g. in plate freezer units in fishing vessels. The invention provides for a long row of advantages in this respect in arranging for the use of a dedicated defrost compressor operable to selectively furnish heated CO2 gas from the discharge side of the refrigeration compressor to the freezer units. This particular compressor can be of a simple and inexpensive type, and from a control point of view all that is needed is to arrange for well known automatic adjustment of the discharge capacity of the compressor to preset temperature/pressure value as may be desirable for different defrosting jobs.
