Abstract
Focal signals are formed for a number of focal points. One has the range reciprocal value of zero. The rest are divided into real and imaginary focal points, such that the real focal points of one group have positive range reciprocal values (Rk<-1>) and the virtual focal points of the other group have negative values (-Rk<-1>). The amplitudes (P) of the focal signals, and the associated range reciprocals (R<-1>, -R<-1>) are inserted as values into a linear function. The range reciprocal associated with its maximum value, following inversion and angular correction, is output as an estimate of the target range (RZ).
