Abstract
The invention relates to a fibre amplification device for an optical system, preferably an optical data transmission system, comprising a light amplification fibre which is doped with at least rare earth metal ions. The invention is characterised in that at least one part of the light amplification fibre (3) is placed in the magnetic field of a magnetic device (5.1, 5.2). The emission-absorption lines of the rare earth metals split in the exterior magnetic field into several lines, which is known as the Zeeman effect. This line split corresponds to a widening of the energy levels and thus to a widening of the amplification bandwidth.
