Abstract

The catalyst concerns a catalyst for organic compounds, such as hydrocarbons, halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols and solvents, in a gas mixture. In order to make the catalyst particularly stable to the action of heat and acids, the invention calls for the catalyst (6, 16, 18, 20) to include titanium oxide and at least one catalytically active component. The titanium oxide is present mainly in the form of rutile titanium dioxide (TiO2) with a BET surface area greater than 40 m<2>/g. The catalyst can be used to clean any kind of combustion gases and to clean industrial exhaust air.
