Abstract

The comparator determines the phase angle between a pair of AC voltages in the voltage range between 1 and 52 kV, using a clock generator (60) and a zero transition switch (36,50) indicating at least three zero transitions of the AC voltages relative to the reference clock. The corresponding phase positions of the AC voltages relative to the reference clock are obtained from the zero transitions and used to determine the phase difference between the voltages. A threshold switch (38,52) is operated by each AC voltage, with the time interval for which the threshold is exceeded compared with a reference value for indicating that the voltage is present.
