Abstract
Test medium for performing microbiological inhibition tests comprise a test organism, a nutrient medium, and opt. an indicator whose colour is changed by the test organism when its growth is not inhibited. The medium contains a sensitivity-enhancing agent selected from: (a) complexing agents for high capacity and selectivity for metal ions that interfere with the action of veterinary drugs and/or the germination of spores; (b) pyrimethamine when the test organism is Bacillus stearothermophillus var. calidolactis; and (c) a combination of ≥ 2 indicators whose colours change simultaneously by different mechanisms to provide an optically enhanced overall colour change. Also claimed is a method for detecting inhibitors with a test medium as above, where ≥ 1 complexing agent is added to the test sample.
