Abstract

The recombinant DNA contains a regulatory region which is at least 50 % homologous with the subregions -969 to -991 base pairs and/or -1308 to -1330 base pairs of the sequence of Figure 10, and contains in the 3' direction from the regulatory sequence at least one promoter region which in turn contains a -35/-10 promoter sequence. An expression vector according to the invention contains a recombinant DNA according to the invention ligated into a suitable vector molecule. To prepare the recombinant DNA according to the invention, the pfl gene with its upstream regions is isolated from the gene bank of a microorganism which contains the gene, and the required parts are obtained by methods known per se and joined to the other required sequences or promoters. When a recombinant DNA according to the invention or an expression vector according to the invention is used for the inducible and repressible expression of a foreign gene, the induction is brought about under anaerobic conditions and by pyruvate, and the repression is brought about by oxygen.
