Tag der Anmeldung: 17. Februar 1955 Bekanntgemacht am 19. Januar 1956Registration date: February 17, 1955. Advertised on January 19, 1956
DEUTSCHES PATENTAMTGERMAN PATENT OFFICE
The high water content and the associated costly drying prevented an economical one Utilization of the phosphate sludge, as it is in the alkaline digestion of aluminum phosphate minerals attack. Because of their strongly alkaline reaction, the sludge residues could not to be used directly as a fertilizer.
It has now been found that those obtained in the alkaline digestion of aluminum phosphate minerals sludge-like residues through suitable additives immediately without any drying process can be converted into high-quality, self-drying fertilizers by removing the high alkalinity of the sludge blunted and possibly increased the phosphate content.
According to the invention, the alkalinity can be blunted achieve that the digestion residue water-soluble calcined metal sulfates, except Sulphates of amphoteric metals and alkali metal sulphates, are added in such amounts, that the caustic soda contained in the sludge precipitates the added metal sulfates in the form of their Hydroxides and at the same time sodium sulfate is formed.
By this measure, the pH value is achieved of the phosphate-containing digestion residue greatly lowered and at the same time by the formed by the reaction of sodium sulfate, which is present in finely divided form a substantial drying of the sludge-like residue.

If the sludge has a moisture content greater than 25 to 30 ° / 0 , it is advisable to pre-dry the sludge in the air beforehand.
The phosphate sludge processed according to the invention is converted into a dry, storable and spreadable, coarse-grained mass, which immediately is suitable as a fertilizer.
According to a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, it can be useful the phosphate-containing, wet digestion residue of the aluminum phosphate mineral processing next to the already mentioned water-soluble calcined metal sulfates a calculated amount of superphosphate add and these starting materials together in a kneader to bring the reaction.
erläutert:The addition of the Super phosphate, the required for a special fertilizing effect pH value can be set in the fertilizer and at the same time bring in the necessary amount of water-soluble acid in the fertilizer. There is of course the. Possibility of ammonizing the fertilizers produced according to the invention in a known manner or of introducing potassium salts by using double salts which contain both water-soluble metal sulfates and potassium salts instead of water-soluble calcined metal sulfates. For example, kainite or schoenite are used as potassium-containing salts.
The reaction of a phosphate sludge with the water-soluble calcined metal sulfates and superphosphate to be added according to the invention is explained below for the addition of calcined magnesium sulfate:
The addition of calcined magnesium sulfate increases the concentration of OH ions in the phosphate sludge greatly reduced by the formation of water-insoluble magnesium hydroxide. The educated Magnesium hydroxide is in turn reduced by the free phosphoric acid of the superphosphate used partial formation of magnesium phosphate added and in this way the regression of prevents poorly soluble iron and aluminum phosphates. Magnesium sulfate introduced in excess is capable of forming double salts that contain water of crystallization and thus part of the process able to bind water formed or water contained in the sludge. Simultaneously but sodium sulfate is formed by the reaction of magnesium sulfate with the sludge containing caustic soda, which has a particularly favorable drying effect due to its fine distribution.
Calcined magnesium sulfate, Iron (II) or iron (III) sulfate is used.
