Description
Process for the production of hydrogen cyanide and cyanogen chloride absorbing filter media The invention relates to a process for the production of hydrogen cyanide and cyanogen chloride absorbing filter media for use in breathing filters according to patent 976 796 known content of about 5 to 100 / o copper is subjected to a treatment with ammoniacal chromate or ammonium dichromate solution. The filter mass resulting from the impregnation is then dried at temperatures between 100 and 180 ° C, preferably 150 ° C. When carrying out the process it is sometimes found that the decomposition of the ammonium-chromate compounds gives rise to pyrophoric compounds which promote self-ignition of the mass.
This disadvantage is eliminated according to the invention in that the Drying carried out in an air stream and effected in a two-stage process.
In this way the formation of a copper-chromate compound is promoted, while the thermal decomposition of ammonium chromate to the pyrophoric Chromium oxide is pushed back. At the same time, the filter performance of the filter mass is also increased significantly increased.
