Nahezu jeder Haushalt besitzt ein oder mehrere Fernsehgeräte mit Infrarot-Fernbedienung, die in der Regel auch mit dieser Ein- und 'Ausgeschaltet' werden. Hierbei handelt es sich jedoch nicht um ein Abschalten im eigentlichen Sinne, da die Geräte nicht galvanisch vom Netz getrennt werden, sondern lediglich vom Betrieb in den sogenannten 'Stand by Mode' umschalten. In diesem Zusammenhang treten drei Fragestellungen auf.Almost every household has one or more televisions with an infrared remote control, which are usually switched on and off with this remote control. Im wesentlichen kann mann drei Gruppen von TV- Geräten unterscheiden:Essentially, one can distinguish three groups of TV sets:
a.) Geräte mit permanenter Vorheizung der Bildröhre nehmen, insbesondere bei älteren Modellen, i. d. Regel mehr als 30 Watt auf.a.) Devices with permanent preheating of the picture tube, especially older models, usually consume more than 30 watts.

Geräte die zwar auf eine Vorheizung der Bildröhre verzichten, bei denen jedoch der Haupttransformator (der auch die IR- Empfangseinheit versorgt), nicht abgeschaltet wird, verbrauchen ca. 10 - 30 Watt.b.) Generell läßt sich eine mögliche Brandgefährdung durch defekte Fernsehgeräte nicht ausschließen, da zumindest in den o. g. Fällen a.) und b.), die Schmelzsicherungen in den Geräten nach der Betriebsleistungsaufnahme dimensioniert sind. Die dadurch mögliche Fehlerverlustleistung, an einem oder mehreren Bauteilen, kann zu einem kritischen Temperaturanstieg innerhalb bestimmter Bereiche des Fernsehgerätes, in letzter Konsequenz also auch zum Brand desselben, führen.In general, a possible fire hazard caused by defective television sets cannot be ruled out, since at least in the above-mentioned cases a.) and b.), the fuses in the devices are dimensioned according to the operating power consumption. Der im Schutzanspruch 1 angegebenen Erfindung liegt das Problem zugrunde, einen elektronisch gesteuerten Schalter zu schaffen, der den 'Stand by Mode' eines angeschlossenen Fernsehgerätes erkennt, und als Folge, dieses vom Netz trennt. Außerdem sollte der Schalter mit einer beliebigen IR- Fernbedienung zu aktivieren sein und einen Überspannungsschutz enthalten. Funktionsbeschreibung der Elektronik:Functional description of the electronics:
Mit dem einstecken des Gehäuses in eine Steckdose wird die Elektronik über das
Netzteil (7) mit Spannung versorgt. (6) und (3) sorgen für eine definiertes 'Aus' des
Relais. Das angeschlossene TV- Gerät ist somit vom Netz getrennt.
Tritt durch das IR- durchlässige Fenster (11) intermittierendes IR- Licht einer Infrarot-
Fernbedienung, wird dies in (1) detektiert, und (3) schaltet das TV- Gerät für ca.
1 Minute in den 'Stand by Mode', in dieser Zeit muß das Fernsehgerät eingeschaltet
