Description
Walter Zink, Nürtingen .*....* *..* : ..**..* Recycling-Substrat für extensive Dachbegrünungen Beschreibung:Walter Zink, Nürtingen .*....* *..* : ..**..* Recycled substrate for extensive green roofs Description:
The invention relates to a substrate that can be conveyed using compressed air based on mineral recycled lightweight building materials - enriched by specially screened organic components, which is mainly used for extensive green roofs.
Today, substrates for extensive green roofs consist largely of bulk materials or bulk material mixtures mined in nature, such as lava, pumice, etc. or of granulates produced using high energy consumption, such as expanded clay or expanded slate. These materials are broken down and sieved accordingly before use.
Either balled plants or shoots that form roots over time or seeds are placed in these purely mineral bulk materials, which can be transported from silo vehicles to roofs using compressed air and hoses or pipes. The growth of the plants is ensured by appropriate fertilization or by sprinkling with humus-rich substances.
If humus is immediately mixed into the mineral granulate in its usual form, the substrate conveyance using compressed air causes considerable problems, as the pipes or hoses often become blocked due to the formation of clumps. Applying a separate humus-rich mulch layer is in turn a cost factor when installing a green roof, as is regular fertilization, which leads to higher maintenance costs.
The innovation now concerns a substrate that combines the advantage of being able to be pumped using compressed air with favorable growth conditions for plants. It is made from specially prepared recycled lightweight building materials (1), such as clay bricks and pumice, to which small amounts of mineral additives are added as required to comply with the required chemical and physical parameters (2). These additives can vary from region to region (slag, tuff, etc.). A certain proportion of composted bark and wood pieces (3) are also added to the substrate to stimulate the biological process. These are sieved in such a way that they can still be pumped using compressed air. The size of the composted wood and bark pieces essentially determines the duration of the decomposition process. By adding relatively large particles in this case, a long-lasting release of nutrients is achieved.
The lower grain size limit of the mineral substances is 2-6 mm, the upper grain size limit is 12 - 16 mm. The proportion of mineral components in the total mixture is around 70 to 90 vol.%, the majority of which comes from recycled building materials. The organic components have a lower grain size limit of 8 - 12 mm and an upper grain size limit of 20 - 28 mm.

The advantage of the invention is that the use of recycled materials conserves natural resources and saves considerable amounts of energy. The efficient application technique is maintained due to the special grading curve and material composition; the addition of organic materials promotes the growth and long-term development of the plants. The organic components have a higher adsorption capacity than purely mineral bulk material mixtures; this improves nutrient storage and makes additional fertilization unnecessary. Water retention is also improved.
Due to the grain size distribution, the described substrate has very good drainage properties, so that it is also suitable for large-scale extensive greening in a single-layer construction (without a separate drainage layer).
Dies zusammen ermöglicht erhebliche Kosteneinsparungen beim Bau und beim Unterhalt extensiv begrünter Dächer. This together enables significant cost savings in the construction and maintenance of extensively green roofs.
