Clamp for roof tiles

The invention relates to a roof tile clamp for attaching roof tiles to a roof.

Current clamps used to secure tiles to a roof comprise a combination of an aluminium clamp and an aluminium nail. The clamp fits over the edge of a tile and extends down beside a batten to which it is secured with a nail. This provides a downward pull on the clamp, which holds the tile against the preceding tile. However, the nail and clamp method has several disadvantages.

This process is time consuming and can be very difficult for a worker balancing on the roof and holding the clamp

used with both hands can be dangerous. Once the staple is in position and the nail is driven into the batten, it is not possible to reposition the staple as the nail head will break off if you try to pull it out. Thus, a workman must use his experience and judgement to immediately position the staple so that the roof tile is securely held.

In addition, the nail and the clamp, which are made of soft aluminum, do not have elastic properties. As a result, when the roof tiles partially settle on the roof in extreme temperatures, causing the roof tiles to expand and contract and thus wear each other out, the clamp no longer holds the roof tiles as securely. This causes the roof tiles to fall off in windy conditions.

According to the present invention there is provided a roof tile clamp comprising a resilient elongate member, the first end of said member being adapted to be secured to a roof batten and the second end of said elongate member being adapted to engage a roof tile to bias it towards the roof surface against an underlying preceding roof tile.

Preferably, the clamp for roof tiles is made of plastic, spring steel wire or another suitable, elastic material.

Furthermore, it is preferable for the first end of the elongated element to be hooked around the roof batten for fastening.

Further preferably, the second end of the elongate element is designed to engage the edge formation of a roof tile.

A conventional clamp and nail arrangement is shown in Fig. 1. A nail A is rotated through a clamp B which in turn is hooked over the edge of a tile C. The tile C overlaps a preceding tile D which rests against a horizontal batten E. By careful selection the correct point on the batten E for driving the nail A is determined and after the nail has been driven the result is that the clamp B presses down on the tile C which in turn rests against the preceding tile D. If this arrangement is carried out correctly a suitable fixing of the tiles will result. If not a number of problems will arise as already described.

When using the clamp 1- for roof tiles, the first end 3 is hooked around the roof batten 2 and the clamp 1 is tightened by lifting the second end 4, thereby tightening the turn 5, and is then hooked over the edge of the roof tile 6. When the second end 4 is lifted into contact with the roof tile 6, the turn 5 comes into contact with a side edge 7 of a second roof tile 9 in a previous row, thereby exerting pressure on the side edge 7 and holding the roof tile 9 in position.

in Fig. 3 into its position in Fig. k , it engages in a groove 8 of the roof tile 6 and thus exerts a downward prestress on the roof tile 6, thereby ensuring that the clamp 1 remains in contact with the groove 8.

The engagement of the second end 4 of the clamp 1 on the groove 8 of the roof tile 6 results in a second preload on the second roof tile 9 in the previous row by the roof tile 6 pressing against it. This in turn presses the positioning projections 10 of the second roof tile downwards and against the roof batten 2.

An advantage of this device is that it can be easily fastened by hand without the need for various tools as with conventional clamps for roof tiles.

Furthermore, the use of this device reduces the possibility of failure in extreme weather conditions, as the clamp is under tension, creating a more secure fastening and allowing a degree of freedom of movement of the roof tiles without the entire assembly becoming loose.

Changes and improvements may be added without departing from the scope of the invention.

Clamp for roof tiles for fastening roof tiles to a roof, in particular to the roof battens of the roof, the clamp consisting of an elastic elongate element, the first end of which can be fastened to a roof batten and the second end of which can be fastened, in particular hooked, to a roof tile, characterized in that the clamp (1) has a winding (5) in the form of a loop between its two ends (3, 4). 2. Clamp according to claim 1, characterized in that the second end of the clamp (1) is flattened and bent into a hook (4). 3. Clamp according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the first end (3) has a hook which engages around a roof batten (2). Ossenberg School 10503/92 4. Clamp according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the winding (5) is formed between the flattening of the second end (4) and the molded hook of the second end (3). 5. Clamp according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the winding (5) runs through a circular arc of 360° and lies in the plane which is spanned by the flattening and the web part bent approximately at a right angle to it, to which the hook of the first end (3) is connected. 6. Clamp according to one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that when the clamp (1) or winding (5) is not tensioned, the beginning and end of the winding run parallel to each other, while when the clamp (1) is in the desired assembly position, the beginning and end of the winding form a Ossenberg School 10503/92 Angle between 125° and 75°, preferably about 100°. 7. Clamp according to one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the clamp (1) is formed in one piece from plastic or another suitable elastic material, preferably spring steel wire. 8. Clamp according to one of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the loop (5) is formed by a multiple turn in screw or spiral form.
