Description

The invention relates to a telephone adapter and in particular to a telephone adapter for connecting an exchange line to a telephone line, according to the preamble of claim 1.

Such telephone adapters are used with telephone sets of different specifications to connect an outside line to a telephone socket in order to connect a telephone line.

Known designs of such telephone adapters include four screws to secure the four line wires of the outside line, which screws are simultaneously connected to corresponding four contact terminals of the attached telephone jack. Since the order of the terminals may vary in different countries, the individual wires of a telephone line must be arranged precisely before they are connected to a telephone set. However, it is difficult for ordinary subscribers to arrange the individual wires of a telephone line precisely according to the specification of the telephone set used.

It is therefore the object of the present invention to solve this problem by creating a telephone adapter which enables easy adaptation of different systems of telephone devices and exchange lines.

This object is solved by the invention characterized in claim 1.

The invention advantageously provides a telephone adapter to which an exchange line can be conveniently connected either with or without a termination connector.

Advantageous embodiments of the invention emerge from the subclaims.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the telephone adapter without cover;

Fig. 3 is a schematic view of an example of installation of the telephone adapter, wherein the exchange line is connected to a connection block; and

Fig. 4 is a schematic view of another embodiment of the telephone adapter, wherein the exchange line is connected directly to a selected connector without passing through the terminal block.

In Figs. 1 and 2, a telephone adapter is shown which generally comprises a base plate 1, a printed circuit 2 and a top cover 3. The base plate 1 forms a tray 4 for receiving the printed circuit and comprises four hooks 5 arranged symmetrically on two opposite sides, two holding openings 6 arranged symmetrically in the middle on two opposite sides, and

a plurality of pins 7 extending on either side thereof at one end for winding a trunk line therearound. The printed circuit 2 comprises a plurality of notches 8 arranged symmetrically on two opposite sides at the positions corresponding to the hooks 5 of the base plate 1. After the printed circuit 2 is arranged in the tray 4, the hooks 5 are hooked into the notches 8 accordingly to fix the printed circuit 2 to the base plate 1. The printed circuit 2 essentially comprises two sets of switching elements, the first set of switching elements being arranged at one end and comprising four short switching elements, one end of each of which is connected to the terminal block 9 and an opposite end to a connector 10. The second set of switching elements is arranged at the opposite end and comprises four contacts 11 at the terminal end and three separate sets of contacts respectively connected to the four contacts 11 for connecting three different connectors, i.e. the four contacts 11 are intended for securing a telephone jack 12 of a US system so that a telephone line 13 can be connected thereto by means of a telephone plug 14, and the three other separate sets of contacts are respectively connected to connectors 15, 16 and 17 of other specifications. The upper cover 3 has two uniform hooks 18 on opposite sides and two openings 20 at two opposite ends for securing the exchange line 19 and the telephone jack 12 respectively. Also provided is a connecting wire assembly 21 having two female connectors 22 at opposite ends for alternatively connecting the connector 10 to one of the other connectors 15, 16 and 17.

Fig. 3 shows an installation example of the telephone adapter in which the exchange line 19 is connected to the terminal block 9 in the correct order, and the connecting wire assembly 21 is connected at one end to the connector 10 and at the other end to one of the other connectors 15, 16 or 17 according to the specification of the telephone set.

Fig. 4 shows another example of installation of the telephone adapter, in which the exchange line 19' itself is provided with a socket connector 22' which can be connected directly to one of the connectors 15, 16 or 17 without it being necessary to go through the connection block 9.

As stated, a telephone adapter is created that can conveniently connect different specifications of trunk lines or a trunk line with its own jack connector at the connection end.

Claims (2)

Protection claims 1. Telephone adapter for connecting an exchange line to a telephone line with a base plate covered by an upper cover for receiving a printed circuit, characterized in that the printed circuit (2) - a first set of switching elements for connecting a first connector (10) to a terminal block (9) to which the line wires of the exchange line (9) are connected, - a second set of circuit elements (11) with at least one telephone jack (12) according to US specification for connecting the telephone line (13) and several selectable connectors (15, 16, 17) of different specifications, which are connected accordingly to the telephone jack (12), and - a connecting line arrangement (21) with a first socket connector (22) at one end which is connected to the first plug connector (10) and a second socket connector (22) at the opposite end which is alternatively connected to one of the selectable plug connectors (15, 16, 17) according to the telephone set used. 2. Telephone adapter according to claim 1, characterized in that the exchange line (19') has its own socket connector (22') which can be connected directly to one of the selectable plug connectors (15, 16, 17) bypassing the connection block (9).
