Data protection device, particularly for facsimile copiers

Facsimile fax machines have become extremely popular and popular in recent years. Today, fax machines have replaced letters sent by post in many cases, and the recipient receives them in the shortest possible time.

Incoming confidential faxes can fall into unauthorized hands, so that the previously existing confidentiality of correspondence is not guaranteed in the broadest sense.

The object of the present invention is to protect incoming information in a simple manner from access by unauthorized third parties.

The invention proposal simply consists in designing a lockable container, preferably made of plastic, in such a way that it can permanently accommodate a switched-on fax machine and that openings are provided for the connection of the power cable and the telephone line.

Since it is useful to be able to see whether copies have arrived without having to open the container, it is also suggested that the container - at least in the area where the copies come out of the fax machine - be made partially transparent, but in such a way that it is not possible to read or recognize the copy. This can be done, for example, by making the container transparent in this area but opaque . It is then possible to see from the outside whether a fax has arrived, but it cannot be read or the contents of the copy can be recognized.

The container will conveniently consist of a lower part and a hinged and/or removable upper part (lid).

In order to keep the costs of manufacturing these parts low, it is also proposed to design the upper and lower parts identically so that they can be manufactured from one tool.

A further advantage of a design of the container according to the invention is that the front wall of the lower part is lower than the rear surface, since the accessibility of the device from the front should not be hindered.

When producing, but also when shipping the containers, it is recommended that you design the top and bottom sections in such a way that both parts fit together and can be stacked.

It is also advantageous to provide a joint in the form of a hinge between the lower part and the upper part, which can be detached from each other when opened. This means that you can either just open the lid and leave it on the lower part, or unhook it and put it to one side. Finally, it is recommended to install a lock with a security key or a combination lock to prevent access by unauthorized third parties.

If necessary, it is also useful to use angles to determine the correct position of the lid so that it can be used as a storage area.

Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of a device according to the invention which protects a facsimile telecopier (1) against unauthorized access to the data.

The fax machine (1) with its mains connection (2) and its telephone connection (3) is located in the lower part (U) of the housing. The upper part (5) is attached to the lower part (U) by means of a hinge (5) and can be folded up. A security lock (7) with key (Θ) prevents access to the fax machine (1) when the device is locked. The lower part (U) and upper part (5) can be made of transparent plastic, for example, which is matt at least in the area (6) so that you can immediately see whether a copy has arrived without having to open the housing, but the matt finish must be designed in such a way that you cannot read the copy or see other details of the copy.

In Fig. 1 it can also be seen that both the lower part (U) and the upper part (5) are identical plastic parts, so that only one tool is required to manufacture these parts. For better understanding, the upper part (5) is shown in Fig. 1 both in the closed and in the folded-up position.

Fig. 2 shows, for example, how the plastic parts should be designed to make them stackable. This is crucial both for the production and for the shipping of these parts.

From Fig. 1 it can also be seen that the design of the housing with a lower front wall (10) and a higher rear wall (11) facilitates the operation of the facsimile machine (1).
