Bearing for the shaft of a windshield wiper The invention
relates to a windshield wiper for automobiles. When installing the wiper shaft in
the motor vehicle is given special attention to its weather resistance
in order to avoid the ingress of moisture into the interior of the car
will. Attaching the windshield wiper to the bonnet is a special task
for the reason that the rain lashes against the windshield and the water
builds up around the wiper mount. Special care must be taken on it
used to prevent water from penetrating into the fastening of the wiper shaft
to be avoided as care should be taken when using a stuffing box gasket
must be that the load on the light drive motor of the windshield wiper is not
is increased and a delay in the operation of the wiper is the result.
In addition, the seal made by the gland packing is subject to one
greater wear and tear and must therefore be tightened or possibly replaced
will.
The subject of the invention is an improvement of the wiper arrangement
to the effect that counteracts the power transmission from the interior of the car to the wiper
to seal the ingress of moisture to the interior of the car without
this increases the load on the windshield wiper.

The invention is illustrated in the drawing in an exemplary embodiment,
namely Fig. z shows a schematic representation of a mounted on a motor vehicle
Wipers,
Fig. 2 is a section on a larger scale through
the windshield wiper and FIG. 3 a rear view of the shaft end of the wiper arm.
tragenden Ende geneigt angeordnet.
In the drawing, i denotes a windshield and 2 denotes the front hood. The windshield is inclined upwards from the hood. The wiper 3 is moved on the glass pane by an arm 4 which is connected to a drive shaft 5 mounted in a support housing 6. The housing is mounted in a weatherproof arrangement on an opening 7 of the hood 2 and passes through the same in order to produce a suitable support for the power transmission parts 8. The housing 6 carries the shaft 5 projecting forward from the housing at a right angle to the disk i and is inclined with the raised end carrying the outer arm. The outer or front end of the shaft passes through an opening i3 of the arm and has threads for receiving a cap-shaped nut 9 by means of which the arm is firmly connected to the shaft 5. The shaft preferably carries a corrugated shoulder io against which a shoulder ring ii is pressed by the nut so that the shoulder ring is tightened firmly in the countersunk hole of the opening of the arm and lies against the seat 13 '. The nut fits with a tapered inclined insert i2 in the outer end of the opening 13 and thereby forms a rigid attachment of the arm on the shaft and at the same time a closure and sealing of the opening against weather influences. The housing 6 encloses the shaft completely except for the protruding front end of the same and, in order to seal it against the effects of the weather, is designed as a sleeve 14 which surrounds the shaft in the axial direction. The end of the arm which engages with the shaft is also designed as a bushing 15 which completely envelops the bushing 13 and pushes itself back a considerable distance so that an overlap of sufficient extent between the parts 14 and 15 is produced. As a result of the inclined arrangement of the sleeves, the penetration of water between them and along the shaft 5 is prevented. The rain lashing against the disc is carried away from the shaft through the outer sleeve 15 deflecting the same downward.
The sleeve-shaped part 15, together with the cap-shaped nut 9, completely envelops the end of the shaft protruding to the front. and also protects the excellent from the barrel 14 portion thereof. "Since the overlap between the sleeves is directed backward, the incident rain from the outer sleeve 1 is 5 run back over the housing without in the reverse direction in the outer sleeve The sliding fit between the weatherproof bushings 14 and 15 has sufficient clearance to prevent friction between the sliding surfaces and to allow the arm to be attached and replaced on the shaft if necessary.
