It has now been found that the chlorination of gasifiable aliphatic
Hydrocarbons with more than 2 carbon atoms as well as their chlorine substituent products,
with the exception of the n-C4 connections, can lead to: that the main product is perchlorethylene,
optionally mixed with carbon tetrachloride. To this end, after
of the invention a flowing
Gas mixture of these hydrocarbons
(with approximately the theoretical amount of chlorine at a temperature of 300 to 800 °,
preferably about 5oo to 6oo °, brought to reaction. The rule here is that
generally in the chlorination of hydrocarbons or their halogen substitution products
with an even number of carbon atoms perchlorethylene, with an odd number, the
Carbon atoms perchlorethylene and carbon tetrachloride are produced. This is where the dimensioning is concerned
to take into account the amount of chlorine required for the implementation. This must also
sufficient to contain all of the hydrogen atoms present in the hydrocarbon

partly further chlorinated and hexachiloroethane formed.
n-Pentan, n-Hexan, n--Heptan, P'ropylen, Isobutylen., Pentan, Octen, Monochlorpropan,.

was excluded, since this essentially results in the formation of hexachlorobutadiene (cf.
