Description
Konvektionswärmeschild für KraftfahrzeugeConvection heat shield for motor vehicles
The invention relates to a convection heat shield for shielding hot components of motor vehicles, such as exhaust mufflers, catalytic converters, engine blocks, etc.
Exhaust mufflers and especially catalytic converters become very hot when a motor vehicle is in operation. This heat is released into the environment through radiation and convection. When driving, the heat transferred to the vehicle parts above the hot component by convection is negligible, as rising, heated air is diverted by the wind. When the vehicle is stationary or moving very slowly, the heat load on the vehicle parts above the hot component increases significantly due to convection heat .
It is known that heat shields can be used to reduce this heat load .
The present invention is based on the object of creating a convection heat shield of the type mentioned at the beginning, which is light and stable and which particularly well fulfils the purpose of protecting the surrounding vehicle parts from convection heat.
Anstelle von According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the convection heat shield comprises several layers, of which the first layer facing the hot component is a carrier layer with elevations and depressions. The carrier layer is expediently made of light, non-corrosive material, preferably of waffled aluminum sheet. Due to the elevations and depressions or the waffle, the carrier layer has a high level of stability, even if the material used is small. A stable and light construction of the shield is thus possible. Furthermore, the carrier layer equipped with elevations and depressions or waffled forms cavities with the next layer which have excellent heat-insulating properties. This provides particularly effective protection against convection heat. Instead of

Es zeigenFurther advantages and details of the invention will be explained using an embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 3.

Der Oberhalb des Schildes 1 befindliche, nichi dargestellte Fahrzeugboden soll vor der von ^?es"-i Bauteil abgegebenen Wärme geschützt werden.by a tunnel-like space 3 that is open at the bottom. In this space 3 is the component that is hot during operation of the motor vehicle. The vehicle floor, which is located above the shield 1 and is not shown, is intended to be protected from the heat emitted by the component.
Figures 1 and 3 show that the shield consists of several layers and that the layer facing the hot component consists of waffled sheet metal, preferably aluminum sheet 4. Due to the waffling, it is possible to use very thin aluminum sheet (0.2 to 0.4 mm, preferably 0.3 mm). This results in a light and stable construction.
Seine Gesamthöhe h beträgt zweckmäßig 2 bis 2,5 mm, vorzugsweise 2,3 mm.Figure 2 shows a section through the waffled aluminum sheet. Its total height h is preferably 2 to 2.5 mm, preferably 2.3 mm.
The layer 5 adjacent to the waffled aluminum sheet consists of a non-flammable filling material that is particularly suitable for heat insulation. Asbestos substitute, mineral foam (e.g. Litaflex SM 30 from Rex Industrie-Produkte) or similar can be used to form layer 5. Together with the waffled carrier layer 4, layer 5 forms cavities 6 that have particularly good heat-insulating properties.

Die Blechschicht 7 schließt den mit nicht brennbarem Füllmaterial 5 gefüllten Zwischenraum ab.The outer layer is formed, for example, by an aluminum sheet 7. The thickness of this sheet can be very thin (0.03 to 0.1 mm, preferably 0.05 mm), since it does not have to perform a load-bearing function itself. The sheet layer 7 closes off the intermediate space filled with non-combustible filling material 5.
To form a unit that can be handled as a whole, layers 4 and 7 must be connected to one another. This can be done by gluing or soldering in their edge areas. However, it is particularly useful if the edge 8 of the waffled aluminum sheet 4 is flanged in such a way that it encloses the layer 5 consisting of non-combustible filler material and the sheet metal layer 7. An edge designed in this way contributes to the overall stability of the sign 1. In addition, the flanging is a relatively simple process step in the manufacture of the sign 1. Separate U-shaped strips enclosing the layers 4, 5 and 7 in their edge area are not required. Finally, a closed space is created in which the non-combustible filler material 5 is located and is protected from dirt and moisture.
