Die Forderungen an das Bindemittel sind besonderer Art. Es soll, wie bereits gesagt, der Form die nötige Festigkeit geben. Es darf keine Reaktionsprodukte abspalten, insbesondere kein Gas, das ein Schäumen oder Treiben und damit eine Formveränderung zur Folge haben würde. Es muß bei möglichst niedriger Temperatur trocknen und härten und darf hierbei nicht schwinden. Außerdem muß sein Preis so niedrig liegen, daß es bei den in Frage kommenden Mengen, etwa 2 bis 6% der Formmasse, keine wesentliche Belastung des Formpreises bedeutet. Diese Forderungen lassen sich erfüllen, wenn man als Bindemittel eine Mischung aus Polyestern mit noch reaktionsfähigen Hydroxyl-, Sulfhydryl- oder Aminogruppen und Di- oder Polyi@socyanaten wählt.
