The invention relates to a novel form of letter post traffic and aims one such acceleration of this traffic that practically eliminating any mechanical Means of transport z. B. on a letter sent in the morning, no matter where, in the afternoon Answer can be obtained.
The remote transmission of manuscripts, photos or the like by electro-optical means (so-called Facsimile process, usually called picture telegraphy in Germany) is known. This method However, it is not suitable for use in regular mail in the way it has been used up to now, in which a very large number has to be transmitted every day, since the one to transmit time (several minutes) required for each letter would be far too long. However, if this time can be shortened significantly, the facsimile system is basically ideal even for highly loaded routes in letter post traffic, since not only typewriter writing and print can be transmitted, which would also be possible with a telex system, but also manuscripts, drawings, photos or the like.
In the existing facsimile systems, the maximum transmission speed is through the The writing speed of the recipient depends, which in turn is largely due to the sensitivity to light depends on the film on which the
tragene Bild reproduziert wird, und die erheblich geringer ist als die Lichtempfindlichkeit der auf der Senderseite verwendeten Photozelle.is reproduced, and which is considerably less than the photosensitivity of that on the Photocell used on the transmitter side.
The invention creates a system for continuous Transmission of letters, manuscripts or the like, through the one for regular mail Sufficient transmission speed is made possible, Uinid consists in that of images that by means of the modulated light beam on a ίο relatively highly sensitive film strip are recorded greatly reduced, after development and projection as many images in the desired Format produced on photosensitive paper with much lower sensitivity at the same time and processed as film images are taken one after the other in this processing time can be.
A positive film is expediently selected as such a film in accordance with the invention. This is true a little less sensitive than a negative film, but that for development and subsequent projection The time required for the film is so much shorter than that for a negative film that this advantage abundantly outweighs the disadvantage mentioned. Plus, positive film is cheaper.
The use of a film on the receiving end and the production of a reduced auxiliary image, which is then projected enlarged, has already been used for a television system proposed (see e.g. Austrian patent specification 143227). The intention was sufficient To create large pictures for hall performances, a consideration which has to do with the subject matter of the invention does not matter. In addition, this television system is far from satisfactory in practice Results delivered, and ultimately there was not a single obvious cause for it Use of this detour in the facsimile process. Nevertheless, there are several advantages here. It is now only a relatively small amount of the highly sensitive, expensive material needed to be used to take a picture in a very short time; for the slide, on which the final image is projected can be a fairly tough, cheap type of paper, z. B. ordinary collotype paper can be chosen, on the one hand because for this projection a quite arbitrarily strong because unmodulated light source can be used, and on the other hand because the exposure time can be a multiple of the scanning time of an entire image, because several film images can be projected at the same time. Furthermore, one arrives at the one that occurs first Exposure of a reduced photo with a small light source, what a possible Inertia-free working of this light source for frequencies in the television frequency range is beneficial.
When using the invention, a letter or other picture in DIN A4 format (29.7 X 21 cm) with a light spot of approximately 0.2 mm width can be scanned in approximately 8 seconds. The resulting signal currents .. require a frequency band of around 80 kHz, so that the light source used on the receiving side must still be usable for 80 kHz. This light source must also be able to cast a light spot of such intensity onto a light-sensitive strip that the latter has an appropriate blackening with an exposure time of approximately ΐ · o ~ 5 seconds. Both are possible when using a positive and even more a negative normal film, since glow lamps with a gas mixture of argon and nitrogen of a certain mixing ratio are known, which can meet the requirements mentioned above. Glow lamps of this type are z. Also by means of other known light sources can, for. B. by using a Kerr cell to generate sufficient blackening.
If a film image is completely exposed on the receiving side, this takes approximately 8 seconds occurs, this portion of the film must be developed. In the case of positive film, it's only a very thin one has a sensitive layer, the development process can be completed in approximately 16 seconds, so that only two successive film frames are immersed in the developer at any one moment need to be. Corresponding figures apply to fixation, rinsing and drying.
The enlarged imprint can be used both with continuous as well as jerky advancement of the filmstrip take place by projection if necessary, several film frames at the same time on a light-sensitive layer. One chooses as such, ordinary collotype paper for economic reasons, one comes in use a high pressure mercury lamp as the light source with an exposure time of approximately 16 seconds off, so that in this case it is sufficient project two movie frames at the same time. This can e.g. B. be carried out in the manner that the film strip is guided around the mercury lamp as an axis and concentric with it Light printing paper is guided.
In compliance with the above figures, when applying the invention, around 450 letters the size of a typewriter page in DIN A4 format per hour on one single channel with a bandwidth of at most 100 kHz are transmitted in a total time, which is practically only conditioned by the time that the Delivery of the original to the post office closest to the sender and for the transmission of the Facsimiles from the post office of the receiving place to the addressee is required, so in one more a little less time than is required to transmit a telegram.
