Description
Process for the production of emulsions of high molecular weight hydrocarbons, Wax or similar substances It is known that by oxidation of paraffin hydrocarbons, z. B. with atmospheric oxygen at elevated temperature, can win products that Form stable emulsions with aqueous alkalis. The emulsifying effect of this Substance is often so large that there are still more in the emulsion formed with alkalis Amounts of insoluble substances, e.g. B. liquid or solid paraffinic hydrocarbons, Waxes or the like, can be emulsified.
If one oxidizes in a manner known per se, high molecular weight, synthetic paraffins obtained from carbon oxide and hydrogen with melting points above 700, z. B. So "or higher, it is also found that the oxidates with alkalis emulsions form and, if necessary, to emulsify further amounts of hydrocarbons capital.
When studying the emulsifying properties of oxidates such high-melting synthetic paraffins now became the surprising one Observation made that from the oxidates of high molecular weight, above 701 Melting paraffinic hydrocarbons by saponification are then particularly good emulsifiers for high molecular weight hydrocarbons, waxes or similar substances, if one from the oxidate before the saponification by a treatment with organic solvents, such as low molecular weight alcohols, ketones, hydrocarbons or the like. The lower molecular and thus more easily soluble components removed. The removal of the lighter Soluble fractions are advantageously carried out to such an extent that the residue has a molecular weight has, the order of magnitude that of the hydrocarbon to be emulsified equals.
The molecular weight of the residue can be about 10 to 20,010 smaller than that of the hydrocarbon to be emulsified; a higher molecular weight is only beneficial.
Oxydiert man z. If you oxidize z. B. one in the catalytic hydrogenation of carbohydrates accumulating paraffin with a melting point of 84 to 90 ° and a molecular weight of 600 to 700 with air at around 1200 without the use of special catalysts in iron vessels until an acid number of 45.8 and a saponification number of 82.2 (OH number = 40.0), a sticky product with a melting point of 64 ° and a molecular weight is obtained of about 500. In the emulsification test, this oxidate provides 10 g of substance 1.5 g of potash and 60 g of water are stirred in the heat, stable emulsions. Also a mixture of 7 g of oxidate and 3 g of original paraffin from the melting point 84 to 90 ° still gives a good emulsion in the emulsification test, while 6 g of oxidate with 4 g of paraffin result in an emulsion that is not very durable.
The more easily soluble, low molecular weight separated from the oxidate Fractions have a high emulsifying power for hydrocarbons of lower molecular weight and can be used with advantage for the production of oil emulsions or for the preparation of lubricating greases Find use. 50 parts by weight of what has been separated off are capable of 50 parts by weight one of 260 to 3200 boiling oil obtained from CO and H2 or 50 parts by weight to emulsify a synthetic slack wax boiling from 320 to 380 °.
Exactly the same thing is observed when one has an even higher melting point synthetic paraffin with a melting point of 94 to 98 ° and a molecular weight of 700 to 800 oxidized in the manner indicated.
The decomposition of the raw oxidates can be done with other than methyl alcohol Alcohols, further with ether, acetone, hydrocarbons or the like. Can be made; you are also not forced to work in the cold. It is through a few tactile attempts easy to determine how far the decomposition has to be carried out in order to obtain the for the In each case the material to be emulsified to obtain the cheapest emulsifier.
It has already been suggested that soaps have a particularly good washing effect by producing oxidates of solid or liquid paraffinic hydrocarbons Pre-cleaned with relatively small amounts of water-soluble organic solvents whereupon saponified and the unsaponifiable are to be separated. For this known process in which -Oxydate relatively low molecular weight paraffin hydrocarbons to be worked up on soaps with a special washing effect, that can be Process according to the invention, which deals with the production of emulsifiers for high molecular weight Hydrocarbons etc. from the oxidates of high molecular weight paraffin hydrocarbons concerned, not - inferred.
