Electric ship propulsion With electric ship propulsion
often diesel engines in connection with direct current generators and powered by them
DC motors used. Arrangements of this type have the advantage "that a
good controllability is possible because the DC machine with regard to its voltage
can be regulated in a simple manner by field control. However, DC machines are
generally more expensive than three-phase machines of the same power and also require
a little more maintenance. However, electrical ship propulsion systems have also been implemented in such a way that
that diesel engines with induction machines, d. H. Three-phase generators are coupled,
which are used to supply three-phase motors. In this case it is a special one
Frequency control necessary so that the speed of the propeller motors on the respective
desired: value can be set. For this purpose, the diesel engines need
are regulated in their speed, and the induction machines then only take over
the electrical coupling between the diesel engine and the. Propeller. The direction of rotation
the diesel engine does not need to be changed because when changing direction
only a reversal of the rotating field in the drive motors, d. H. a switch,
necessary is. Rotary field machines have the advantage that they are simpler and also
are cheaper than DC machines; The invention relates to an improved
electric ship propulsion, in which rotary field and direct current machines according to the invention
serve together to drive the propeller, in such a way that the induction machines the
Take over basic power for the drive and with the propeller in the speed
be regulated and that the DC machine an additional power, a network

will be in
Field regulated and so adapted to the respective operating speed of the propeller. One
Execution in this way is particularly recommended: if already existing
Machines intended to be used for installation in a ship. Sometimes the case is
then so that one or more machines for the power requirement of the ship propulsion
not yet sufficient, while with the addition of another machine with a larger type output
the necessary performance is exceeded by some. The subdivision of the prime mover
in rotating field and direct current machines offers considerable advantages in this case.
The diesel motors that drive the induction machines are used to regulate the
Propeller speed regulated in the speed. The diesel engine running on a DC machine
is coupled, works on a network of constant voltage. From this network the
on a ship otherwise necessary power for auxiliary machines and the like diverted.
In addition, given the size of the diesel engine, there is an excess power,
which is not used by the on-board power supply. This excess performance is through
a! DC motor also transferred to the propeller drive. To this end
it must be possible to regulate the DC motor in the field within wide limits because
its speed is dictated by that of the propeller: is. At low speed
the DC motor must be more excited than at a higher propeller speed,
so that from the fasting relationships. see resulting balance in relation to
can persist on the network of constant voltage.
damgestellt. Mit i, 2 und 3 sind Kraftmaschinen., z. B. Dcs°lmotoren, bezeichnet.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is shown schematically in the drawing

The motors i and 2i drive three-phase generators L 4, 5, the phase reversers

which works on a DC busbar 8. From this busbar will
first of all: the excitation of the generators 4, 5 branched off and also: the consumption
of the other auxiliary equipment on board the ship: 'The beyond
remaining excess power is supplied to a DC motor io, which also

11, 12 a load-dependent additional excitation is provided. It is also provided that
the automatic controller for the DC motor iö either as a current controller or
can work as a voltage regulator. It is useful to use the regulator as a voltage regulator
Always let work when the diesel engine 3 is switched off and the DC motor
