Description

Fire retardants The penetration capacity of more concentrated, in usually more or less acidic fire protection solutions of salts that do not count among the alkali metal salts, e.g. B. Solutions of Calcium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride, Chlorine zinc or chlorine zinc mixed salts, such as chlorine zinc ammonium halide double salts, or of aluminum sulfate and others in difficult to absorb, e.g. B. soot- or dust-covered wooden surfaces, is only slight, since such solutions often have a high surface tension and even feel oily. According to the state of the art in fire protection technology today Common wetting agents or those suggested in literature that can be used to remedy the problem Fire-retardant salts tend to inflict such difficulties when they become more concentrated Metal salt solutions of the type mentioned salted out or even precipitated, so that the wetting effect does not come into play, or only to a very limited extent. This is for the use for fire protection purposes is particularly annoying; when it comes to Woodwork is involved that has been installed for a long time and as a result of dust or Soot or as a result of previous treatments with an oily anti-fungal agent, z. B. with Carbolineum, in itself has become more water-repellent than freshly cut Wood. In such cases the addition of a really useful wetting agent is advisable The metal salt solutions cannot be dispensed with, because only in this way the wood surface Sufficient saline solution can be incorporated in each operation.

It has now been found that the effectiveness of wetting agents in the more concentrated solutions used as fire retardants for wood, the salts which do not count among the alkali metal salts, can increase if one of the Urea solution, expediently a multiple of the wetting agent content, inflicts. The salts in question are those of zinc, magnesium and aluminum. That this improves the effectiveness of the wetting agent and in particular one Reducing or even avoiding precipitation symptoms is possible all the less to foresee than by the not inconsiderable degradation of the Water content of the solution as a result of the addition of another one going into solution Body rather the opposite, namely an even stronger salting out and loss of effectiveness of the wetting agent should have been expected.
