Montessori kindergartens have been using teaching and practice materials for some time, in which a letter or a number is attached to a solid board as a symbol, the surface of which differs from the surface of the solid board in terms of roughness and color. The symbols are represented by a coating on the board, which consists of an adhesive and a grainy material. This teaching and practice material supports children in the gradual introduction to learning letters or numbers, as it not only appeals to children's visual memory, but also to their sense of touch, as the children trace the letters or numbers with their fingers, with the varying roughness of the symbols making it easier to trace the symbols with their fingers. Feeling the symbols on the board also prepares children for later writing. The disadvantage of the known teaching and training aid is that the rough surface that represents the characters cannot be produced efficiently, even on flexible plates as a base, and that only rough representations of letters and numbers are possible.

GB-PS 193 470 discloses a teaching and learning aid of the type mentioned above, in which the elevations are created by embossing and inking. This process is relatively laborious and there is no guarantee that the embossing will be preserved over the entire lifespan of the teaching and learning aid.

To improve teaching and training materials of the type mentioned above so that they can be produced rationally, allow refined figurative representations and design the differences in roughness between the paper and cardboard on the one hand and the symbol on the other hand so that they can be felt by children.

For this purpose, the proper teaching and training material is characterized by the fact that the elevations consist of thermal printing or relief printing ink, i.e. the elevations consist of accumulations of color. The coloring is arbitrary

According to a further advantageous embodiment of the teaching and training aid according to the invention, the elevations are arranged as a regular grid, which considerably improves the readability and tactility of the characters.

Fig. 1 shows how the letter "K" is represented by point-shaped elevations 2 on the area covered by this character representation on the base 4. The edges of the "K" are formed by line-shaped elevations 6. The points 2 form a regular grid.

The raised areas are created using so-called thermal printing or relief printing. It is immediately apparent from the illustration that this type of raised area can be produced efficiently and can also be created on a flexible base. A more refined figurative representation is also possible using thermal printing or relief printing. This means that not only letters or numbers, but also simple figures that the child should learn by sight and touch can be represented with sufficient accuracy and without great effort.

The section of Fig. 2 essentially shows colored dots as elevations 2, which are printed on a base 4 made of paper or cardboard. The adhesion of the dots is not a problem with the printing process mentioned. The three-dimensional design of the elevations that can be achieved with thermal printing or relief printing is completely sufficient to be able to capture the images shown.
