Description

Insulation paste for heating filament covering A wide variety of methods have become known for covering the Ilelzdrraht for indirectly heated cathodes of discharge vessels. When it comes to continuously covering a smooth heater wire with an insulating layer, the method in which the wire is drawn through an insulating paste has proven to be extremely economical. In this process, the filament is passed through a suspension of insulation paste, in particular aluminum oxide and aluminum nitrate, in water. The insulation paste is then dried on and the wire is passed through the suspension until the desired layer thickness is achieved and the insulation layer is then sintered. However, the method, on the other hand, has various difficulties. For example, it is not easy to achieve that the wire covered with insulation compound lies exactly in the middle of the insulation layer, so that the thickness of the insulation layer is constant over the entire circumference of the wire. Furthermore, it often occurs that the covered wire does not show a smooth surface, but is often covered by knot-like elevations. These disadvantages just mentioned are avoided according to the present invention in that a water-soluble binding and / or stabilizing and / or wetting agent is added to the suspension of insulation material in water - Alg-particularly suitable binding, stabilizing and wetting agent - has become. Methyl cellulose proved. By appropriately adding methyl cellulose to a suspension of aluminum oxide and aluminum nitrate in water, it was possible to cover heating filaments of all diameters with insulation material, all of which had the desired properties in full. The covered wires had a particularly smooth surface, and the heating wire lay exactly in the middle of the insulation layer. . The mechanical properties of the heating wire were not impaired in any way by the methylcellulose. Since the methyl cellulose burns residue-free at the dry temperature of 700 ° C in air, it does not affect the insulation properties of the insulation layer either. The addition of methyl cellulose to the suspension of the insulation compound in water increases the wetting effect, on the other hand prevents the separation of the bath approach and, as a result of its adhesive or binding effect, produces evenly covered wires.

It goes without saying that the procedure just described does not can only be used to cover heating wires with insulation paste, but that it can be used successfully wherever it is a question of -Metal body to be provided with an insulating layer.
