Description
The invention relates to multi-colored thermoplastic film webs, consisting of a preferably single-colored base material and at least one other-colored admixture. Such film webs are often used for the interior fittings of motor vehicles, for example for the interior lining of doors. For aesthetic reasons, such film webs often have to have a textile appearance. To achieve this, not only must the visible surface of the film webs be embossed in such a way that a certain thread path, for example a knitted or woven design, is imitated, but the inhomogeneous coloring of a natural thread must also be imitated. The characteristic color speckles must be approximately the size of the thread to be imitated. They may not have a prominent longitudinal axis, and each speckle must have a surface of approximately the same size, on the order of a quarter of a square millimeter or less. Up to now, these requirements could only be met by printing the embossed surfaces of preferably single-colored film webs with at least one other color tone. The products created in this way had the disadvantage that after prolonged wear and tear, as occurs with vehicle door panels in the area of the door handles, window cranks and the driver's knee resting on the door, which is particularly noticeable in small cars, the color speckles were lost in addition to a flattening of the embossed surface structure, thus impairing the stylistically desired textile impression. The invention is based on the object of enabling more abrasion-resistant color speckles on thermoplastic film webs.
Auch nach Abrieb der Oberfläche bleibt die SprenkelungThe object is achieved according to the invention in that differently colored particles are mixed into the preferably single-colored base material, which are solid or at least significantly tougher than the base material at the softening temperature of the base material. As a result, the color speckles are no longer only found on the visible surface, but extend over the entire thickness of the film; the coloring of the film is therefore solid - including the speckles. Even after the surface has been rubbed off, the speckles remain.
erhalten.receive.
It is particularly important that the differently colored admixture added to the base material is in the form of particles. An approximately spherical shape of the differently colored particles with diameters between 30% and 80% of the film wall thickness is preferred.
By abandoning the previously always required close chemical relationship between the base material and the admixture, the dimensional stability of the mixed particles of a different color is achieved by the fact that the particles are solid at the softening temperature of the base material or at least significantly tougher than the base material. The great difference between the softening and melting behavior of the two mixed masses, in particular the dimensional stability of the particles of a different color, prevents the flow of the colored surfaces in the calendering direction, which has always been observed with two-color mixtures and which results in a strip-like color effect with a preferred longitudinal direction. A soft PVC as the base material and a preferably cross-linked acrylic polymer for the particles of a different color are proposed as materials with the required differences.
Mit dem Begriff "Erweichungstemperatur" ist im Rahmen dieser Anmeldung die Temperatur gemeint, wo 50 Gramm des zähflüssig gewordenen Werkstoffes in dem "Plasti-Corder" der FirmaIn view of the fact that a plastic is particularly suitable as the base material of the film, the film base material is not identified by a melting point, but by a softening temperature v*; the transition from the solid to the liquid state in the case of the soft PVC mentioned does not take place at a sharply defined temperature, but gradually within a temperature interval (amorphous behavior). The term "softening temperature" in the context of this application refers to the temperature at which 50 grams of the viscous material in the "Plasti-Corder" of the company
hervorrufen. However, if - which is also within the scope of this invention - a material with a pronounced melting point is used as the film base material, the general term "softening temperature" can be replaced by "melting temperature".
Zur Farbgebung der andersfarbigen Partikel wird deren Pigmentierung vorgeschlagen, vorzugsweise mit Ruß.The thermoplastic films described take on an appearance that can be confused with real textiles if the contrast between the base material and the differently colored particles is large. To color the differently colored particles, it is suggested that they be pigmented, preferably with carbon black.
Es zeigt:The invention is explained in more detail below using three figures. It shows:

Fig. 3 the same films as in the previous figure, but in cross section.
The film web shown in Fig. 1 consists of a single-colored, light gray base material 1 in which black particles 2 are embedded. Some of the particles 2 touch the upper visible surface 3, which is embossed with a textile pattern, and cause a speckled multi-color effect there. The base material 1 is soft PVC mixed with the black particles 2. The black, approximately evenly distributed particles 2 are polyacrylic beads pigmented black with soot, which are formed by spray drying. In particular in the area of the film web surfaces 3, 3a, the particles 2 are slightly flattened due to uneven pressure in these zones during the final calendering and embossing. The film has the shape of a web that is delimited on both sides by the edges 7.
The left film strip 9 has two thin threads 4 per edge, the right 10 has one thick 5 per edge. These edge reinforcements of the film strips 9, 10 are recommended when the textile-limiting film strips are to be used with textiles

In addition to the usual overlapping sewing, it is also possible to sew the seams together using the thread 6, as shown. By briefly heating the seam surfaces locally, the seam 8 can be made watertight by utilizing the thermoplastic behavior of at least the base material 1.
Of course, two films according to the invention can also be joined together by welding alone in a manner known per se, for which no thread inserts are required at the edges of the film web. In any case, during welding - and this is of particular importance for the aesthetic impression - the color speckles typical of the textile are completely retained because the differently colored particles 2 are hard or at least significantly tougher than the base material 1 at the softening temperature of the base material 1.
Während bislang die typische FarbsprenkelungThe two film strips 9, 10 sewn together and welded on the surface are shown in cross-section in Fig. 3. The blunt seam 8 shows the local merging of the base materials 1 of the two film strips 9 and 10. The tightness of the seam 8 is achieved particularly reliably when both film strips 9, 10 match in their base material. The differently colored particles 2 of both film strips 9, 10, on the other hand, do not need to be the same, neither in terms of material, size, nor color, since the speckles do not flow and do not mix with each other. As shown, with edges 7 reinforced with threads 4, 5 it is even possible to sew together film strips 9, 10 of different thicknesses. Because the connecting thread 6 alternately wraps around one of the two threads 4 of the film web 9, the thin threads 4 are not at risk of tearing compared to the one strong thread 5 of the film web 10. This process technology allows considerable material savings, firstly because no overlaps are necessary and secondly because with a joining process such as this, the film web wall thickness can be adapted to the local stress. Only because the overall textile impression of the film web is not impaired with such a connection, the described joining technique is stylistically justifiable. While the typical color speckles

Due to these good processing options, the tightness, the washability and the appearance that cannot be distinguished from textiles, film webs according to the invention are also suitable for the production of tablecloths, napkins, ties, raincoats and the like. In general, it is crucial that the thermoplastic properties of the base material of the film web, which is preferably a soft PVC, are possible without softening the differently colored particles that cause the speckles.
