Electronic city pilot

The innovation concerns an electronically controlled city guide, which is intended to enable a driver of a motor vehicle who is unfamiliar with the area to reach a desired destination from any starting point 1 on the nearest route.

The information to be stored for various cities, which usually appears in "city maps", is stored in a known manner on already known storage devices, such as magnetic tapes, storage disks or the like, and is designed to be inserted into the housing of the city pilot. The sensors for scanning the storage are provided in the housing depending on the type of storage.

Preferably, the distances required for the route to be travelled can be displayed in the following different forms depending on their classification. Furthermore, the traffic lights on the routes to be travelled should be displayed on the device's screen. The new city pilot is made ready for use by inserting the memory which contains the information required for the location in question and pressing the power button. After ^entering the starting location and the destination using the letter keys in the keypad and pressing another button to switch the screen on, the route to be travelled is shown schematically on the screen. The individual streets to be travelled on appear on the screen in different forms according to their classification. The traffic lights to be passed on the route are also shown as essential features.

The attached drawing shows a schematic representation of the top of the housing in which the components required for the city pilot, which are already known in detail, are arranged.

On the top of the housing 1, in the lower area, there is a keypad 8 with the letters of the alphabet in the arrangement known from typewriters. This keypad also has a key 9 for the character "colon", an on key 12, an off key and an "image" key 14.

Above the keypad 8 there is a display field for the starting location 10 (A = departure location) to be entered using the letter keys and the destination 11 (= Z) to be stored in the device in the same way. Finally, above this there is a screen 15 to display the route to be covered after entering the starting and destination locations.

The route displayed on the screen 15 explains to the driver the route to be driven, for example as follows:

From the starting point, the first stretch is to be covered on the road indicated by its name. On this stretch, you must first pass four traffic lights at 5 and then turn left at the sixth traffic light 6 onto the motorway 4 (without Ainpelänlägeh!). At the motorway exit marked 3, leave the motorway and continue on the road (also indicated by its name) with the traffic lights 5. After the fourth traffic light on this road you will find the destination 2, in the example the airport of the city in question.

Expectations 1. Electronic city pilot, characterized in that in a housing (1) on the top one above the other a) a keypad with the letters of the alphabet, preferably in the arrangement known from typewriters, and other character and control keys, b) a display field for displaying the key points that are essential for the desired route, namely location (10) and destination (11), and (c) a screen (15) for the (schematic) representation of the route to be travelled are arranged. 2.' City pilot according to claim 1, characterized in that a direct current source is provided as the energy source, for example a dry battery or the vehicle battery. 3. City pilot according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that known storage devices are provided for the input of the data, which can be inserted into the housing of the city pilot in an exchangeable manner.
