von Aluminiumoxyden in zwei Systeme ein und bezeichnet sie als y,System und f-System,
gemäß ihrem Verhalten beim Er-
Fitzen. Die y-_@ltiniiniutnoxyde der Haher-Klassi-
fikation umfassen das eigentliche y-Aluminiumoxyd
au! alle sog. hydratisierten -'\luininiutnoxyde, die
i,e,irn Erhitzen über die ,-Form in a-Aluminium-
oxyde umgewandelt «-erden. Andererseits umfassen
die r,'-_\lumitiiumoxyde des Haber - Systems Alu-
uliniunioxyde, wie Diaspor, die beim Erhitzen cürekt
in x-:\lumiiiiunioxyd umgewandelt werden, ohne
über die y-Form zu gehen. Diese Klassifizierung
der Aluminiumoxyde in ;- und /3-Systeme nach
11 a l) e r darf nicht verwechselt werden mit der
Klassifizierung in die fundamentalen wirklichen
.\luminitinioxydformen, die lediglich zur Einteilung
der üblichen Formen von Aluminiumoxyd in zwei
lwstinitute (irupl)en dient. Die verschiedenen sog.
hydratisierten Aluminiumoxyde, die dem y-Systein
gc@m:il@ der Hal)crschen Klassifikation zugeordnet
sind, sind also durchaus verschieden von den wirk-
lichen #,-Altiniiniumoxyden, und Diaspor ist kein
"-.\ltitniniumoxyd.

umfassen Imw. bilden. die bei dem Verfahren ge-
rlcr Erfindung als Katalysator hzw. Katalysator-
verwendet werden, sind:

llv(lrargillit): diese Form ist leicht synthetisch
i#crsMllmr und kommt in der Natur als minerali-
scher Chlasit und als Bestandteil verschiedener
I%uxhe vor.
2. :\ltltiiiniunioxyd-f-trihydrat (Bayerit) ist iso-
worl)h mit Eydrargillit find kommt in der Natur
n;clit vor, kann jedoch synthetisch durch geeignete
Ilnstellung der AusfälhmgAwdiugungeli erzeugt
werden.
3. :Muminiumoxyd-x-motiohydrat (Böhmit) wird
durch teilweise Dellydratation eines der obigen Tri-
h_ydrate gebildet. '
1. "-:\luniiniumoxyd, ein meta-stal)iles masser-
freies Oxyd, das in der Natur nicht vorkommt, je-
doch durch sorgfältig kontrollierte Dehydratation
der d,cngenannten drei Hydrate hergestellt werden
kann.
;. ('#elförmiges Aluminiumoxyd. Diese häufig
auftretende Aluminiumoxydform ist in frisch ge-
fälltem "Zustand amorph, zeigt jedoch nach dem
Altern lx#i der Röntgenstrahlenanal_yse die eliarak-
teristischen I.itiienvon Böhmit.Beim weiteren Altern
wird die Fällung allmählich in Eaverit und schließ-
lich in llydrargillit umgewandelt.
6. Bauxit, ein Mineral von wechselnder Zu-
sanitnetisetzting, das aus einem außerordentlich fein
verteilten Gemisch von zwei oder mehr der 1)e-
kannten Alumittiumoxcde und gewissen argilliti-
schen Rückständen besteht und keine Whydrate
von Aluminiumoxyden enthält, wie früher ange-
nrnmnen wurde.
Eine bevorzugte Art von aktivierten Aluminium-
oxyden wird durch Dehydratation von Aluminium-
oxy(ltrilivdrat. kristallisiert aus Alkalialurninat-
Lösungen, hergestellt. Irin lwsmiders geeignetes
Material dieser Art ist (las aus k<» upaktem Alti-
niiniumoxydtrihydrat hergestellte Produkt, wie es
z. 11. in den USA.-Patentschriften r 868 869 und
= 015 593 1)esclirielwn ist. Natiirlichc Aluminiuni-
oxyde, wie Bauxit, sind im allgemeinen nicht so
wirksam wie synthetische .\luniitiiunloxv(1e, was im
wesentlichen auf die Anwesenheit I)eträchtlicher
Anteile von Eisen, Kieselsäure und anderen Ver-
unreinigungen zurückzuführen ist, die die Selek-
tivität der Katalysatoren vermindern und uner-
wünschte Spaltreaktionen 1)egiitistigen. Ge@t-isse
ausgewählte Bauxite, wie der als »Porocel« ini
Handel 1wEnMiche aktivierte Bauxit, reichen in
ihrer Uhrksamkeit an die synthetischen Aluniittium-
oxyde heran und können tnit \-orteil als Kataly-
sator, iiishesondere wegen ihrer verhältnismäßig
geringen Kosten, 1)ei dein Verfahren gemäß der
Erfindung verwendet werdest.
Die verschiedenen hydratisici-ten Aluminium-
oxvde, wie sie oheil heschi-iel)eil sind, können in ge-
wünschtem Maße dehydratisiert, d. h. aktiviert
werden. Das \-laxitnutn des Adcorlstionsvernlögens
entspricht gewöhnlich eitlem Wassergehalt zwischen
etwa ; und etwa 12 "-o. und auf einen solchen
Wassergehalt dehydratisierte Stoffe sind sehr gc-
eignet. 1)ie verschiedenen .\lutniniumoxvde können
jedoch auch noch wirksamer gemacht werdest durch
weitere behydratation his zu einem Wassergehalt

Methyläthylketon) wurde \erdanipft und im Dampf-
zustatici mit einer Raumgeschwindigkeit von etwa
2o durch den Reaktionsraum durchgeschickt. Etwa
47 % des Homoisol)liorrnis wurden iit Phenole um-
gewandelt.
In gleicher Weise wurde ein C,2-Ketort, herge-
stellt durch Kondensation \-on vier Molekülen
Aceton, das einen Ring von 6 Kohlenstoffatomen
reit nur einer @ingdoppelbindung enthielt, der
Wirkung von adsorbierendetn Aluminiumoxyd bei
etwa 5oo° ausgesetzt. Auch hierbei wurden pheno-
lische Verbindungen erzeugt.
Die bei dem Verfahren gemäß der Erfindung ver-
wendeten Katalysatoren sind unter den Reaktions-
bedingungen recht stabil und können daher wäh-
rend einer langen Zeitdauer ohne wesentliche Ver-
ringerung ihrer Aktivität verwendet werden. Wenn
die Katalysatoren nach langer Benutzungsdauer all-
mählich eine verringerte Aktivität zeigen, kann,
wie gefunden wurde, die ursprüngliche Aktivität
durch Oxydieren der Kohlenstoffabscheidung prak-
tisch vollständig wiederhergestellt werden, vor-
zugsweise bei Temperaturen, die etwa 700° nicht
wesentlich übersteigen. Diese Oxydation kann'ohne
Entfernung des erschöpften Katalysators aus der
Reaktionszone durch Durchschicken von Sauerstoff.
