Description
HOECHST AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT HOE 82/F 040 G Dr.EG/WaHOECHST AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT HOE 82 / F 040 G Dr.EG/Wa
It is known / that the individual pages of a book are held together by an adhesive binding on the spine are and that both hot melt adhesives and dispersion adhesives are used as adhesives, which according to Form a coherent film on the spine of the book when it dries should (see Deutscher Drucker No. 19/1980, pages 18-24). The durability and resistance to aging are the Perfect binding depends not only on the adhesive, but also on the type of paper and the degree of printing. as Adhesives are used in particular for tough plastic and weather-resistant Adhesives based on cellulose derivatives or synthetic resins such as vinyl products, e.g. polyvinyl acetate, which after being applied to the spine of a book creates a cohesive, supple, Form a solid and water-resistant film (see German Patent specification 700 843). The film-like reinforcing layer can also be made with the aid of aqueous synthetic resin dispersions can be generated, e.g. with a dispersion of polyglycerol acetate and polyvinyl acetate (see German patent specification 713 077). The known adhesives are obviously not universally applicable without further ado. Hot melt adhesive namely have the disadvantage that the spine of the book is often insufficiently wetted and that it is cold and heat resistant are unsatisfactory, and dispersion adhesives, which usually have a solids content of at most 60 percent by weight have, require a long time to dry and to form a film, which only becomes more costly through use Aids and methods can be shortened.
The object of the invention is to provide a block of printed or unprinted paper, which with the help a pre-made sheet covering one side of the paper block is held together.
The invention therefore relates to a paper block consisting of single sheets or stapled sheet layers, which are connected to one another at one edge by a film, characterized in that the film is made of polyvinyl alcohol consists, which is connected to the single sheets or sheet layers by means of an adhesive.
Die Dicke der Folie beträgt vorzugsweise 0,01 bis 0,5 mm und insbesondere 0,02 bis 0,2 mm.The thickness of the film is preferably from 0.01 to 0.5 mm and in particular from 0.02 to 0.2 mm.
The film consists of a plasticizer-containing polyvinyl alcohol (PVAL) which has a Esterzahl of preferably 0 to 200 mg KOH / g and its 4gewichtsprozentige aqueous solution at a temperature of 20 0 C a viscosity of preferably 4 to 100 mPa-s. Particularly suitable is a polyvinyl alcohol having a Esterzahl from 10 to 150 mg KOH / g, mPa-s having its 4gewichtsprozentige aqueous solution at a temperature of 20 0 C, a viscosity of 10 to 60th
Dieses Granulat wird in bekannter Weise dadurch hergestellt, daß 100 Gewichtsteile eines trockenen PVAL-Granulats, das zu mindestens 70 Gewichtsprozent aus Partikeln mit einem Durchmesser von 0,4 bis 4 mm besteht, mit 5 bis 50 Gewichtsteilen eines Weichmachers - gegebenenfalls in Gegenwart von 1 bis 15 Gewichtsteilen einer feinteiligen, in Wasser löslichen oder dispergierbaren, hochmolekularen organischen Verbindung, die aus Partikeln mit Durchmessern von höchstensIn particular, the starting raw material for the production of the film is used a plasticized PVAL granulate; this is at least 70 percent by weight, preferably at least 90 percent by weight, of particles with a diameter of 0.8 to 4 mm, in which a plasticizer and optionally a finely divided, water-soluble or dispersible, high molecular weight organic compound present homogeneously distributed. These granules are produced in a known manner in that 100 parts by weight of a dry PVAL granulate containing at least 70 Percent by weight consists of particles 0.4 to 4 mm in diameter, with 5 to 50 parts by weight of one Plasticizer - optionally in the presence of 1 to 15 parts by weight of a finely divided, water-soluble or dispersible, high molecular weight organic compound consisting of particles with diameters of at most
0,3 mm besteht - in Gegenwart einer solchen Menge Wasser, die unter Normalbedingungen zur Lösung des PVAL nicht ausreicht, intensiv und homogen miteinander vermischt werden; während des Mischvorgangs wird die Temperatur des Gemisches derart erhöht und wieder gesenkt, daß die PVAL-Partikel quellen und vorübergehend agglomerisieren (vgl. europäische Anmeldungsveröffentlichung Nr. 4587).0.3 mm exists - in the presence of such an amount of water that it does not dissolve the PVAL under normal conditions sufficient, intensively and homogeneously mixed with one another; during the mixing process, the temperature of the mixture is increased and decreased again in such a way that the PVAL particles swell and temporarily agglomerate (see European Application Publication No. 4587).
The film used in the present invention is customary Process produced, in particular by the casting process, slot extrusion process or preferably blow extrusion process. If necessary, the water solubility of the film can be modified mechanically or chemically in particular by biaxial stretching or by partial crosslinking. Serve as a crosslinking agent thereby compounds that react with the hydroxyl groups of the PVAL. Bifunctional compounds are particularly suitable such as bisepoxides and diisocyanates and, preferably, formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing compounds and also dialdehydes, e.g. glyoxal or terephthalaldehyde.
In the context of the invention, a PVAL film which is insoluble in cold water but soluble in hot water is particularly suitable. Here, “cold” is understood to mean a temperature of at most 30 ° C. and “hot” a temperature of at least 50 ° C.
Copolymeren des Vinylacetats mit Ethylen, Acrylsäureesterη, Maleinsäurediestern oder höheren Vinylestern wie Vinyldecanaten und Terpoly-A dispersion adhesive is preferably used as the adhesive, i.e. an aqueous plastic dispersion with a solids content of 40 to 65, preferably 50 to 60 percent by weight. Commercially available dispersions of styrene / Acrylic ester copolymers and, in particular, dispersions based on polyvinyl acetate or based on Vinyl acetate copolymers, e.g. copolymers of vinyl acetate with ethylene, acrylic acid esters, maleic acid diesters or higher vinyl esters such as vinyl decanates and terpoly
Die Kunststoff-Dispersion enthält gegebenenfalls einen üblichen Weichmacher, insbesondere einen Phthalsäurediester wie Dibutylphthalat oder Benzylbutylphthalat.mers made from vinyl acetate, ethylene and vinyl chloride. the Particle size (average diameter) of the dispersed polymer particles is generally in the range from 0.01 to 5 µm, preferably from 0.2 to 3 µm, i.e. the plastic dispersion is coarsely to medium-dispersed. The plastic dispersion optionally contains a customary plasticizer, in particular a phthalic acid diester such as dibutyl phthalate or benzyl butyl phthalate.
Andere geeignete Klebstoffe sind Glutinleime, z.B.Other suitable adhesives are glutin glue, e.g.
The PVOH employed herein has a Esterzahl 4-190, preferably 20 to 140 mg KOH / g, and has the 4gewichtsprozentige aqueous solution of the PVAL at a temperature of 20 0 C a viscosity of 2.6 to 66, preferably 18 to 28 mPa * s.
Die aufgetragene Klebstoff-The adhesive is usually applied evenly to one side of a single sheet using a roller or roller or previously stapled sheets of paper are applied to existing paper blocks. The paper block is mechanically fixed, e.g. with the help of a bracket. The applied adhesive
2 menge beträgt 30 bis 200, vorzugsweise 50 bis 100 g/m .2 amount is 30 to 200, preferably 50 to 100 g / m.
The PVAL film is then applied to the still moist adhesive layer and preferably pressed with a pressure device, for example a pressure roller or a pressure beam; the pressure on the film is 1 to 8, preferably 2 to 4 bar. To accelerate the adhesion, it is advisable to heat the pressing device, and to a temperature of 50 to 150 0 C, preferably 70 to 90 0 C.
The paper pad according to the invention has a good cold and heat resistance, ie, the film is flexible in the temperature range from -20 to 80 0 C. An undesired plasticizer migration is prevented by the PVAL film.
The paper block according to the invention can be made of unprinted or printed, coated or uncoated paper and also art paper. According to the invention Paper pads are, in particular, tear-off pads and notepads, as well as books such as paperbacks and telephone books. Such Paper blocks can easily be reused in the "recycling" process, as the PVAL film is easily soluble in hot water and mechanical removal of the spine is unnecessary. Of special The advantage of making the paper block is that compared to using dispersion adhesives Reduced drying time, which is a maximum of 10 seconds .
The invention is illustrated by the drawing. the Figure shows a section of the paper block, which consists of single sheets 1, which are covered by an adhesive layer are connected to the PVAL film 3 at one edge in each case.
