BolometerBolometer
The invention relates to a bolometer according to the preamble of claim 1.
Such bolometers are used to measure the energy of electromagnetic radiation. How it works is based on the absorption of radiation in a thin bolometer strip, the change in resistance as a result the heating caused by the absorption of radiation is measured in a Wheatstone bridge. In practice, two bolometer strips that are as similar as possible are installed in adjacent branches of the bridge circuit, only one of which is exposed to the radiation, so that it is independent of the ambient temperature results.
In a known bolometer, the bolometer strip is applied in the form of a meander-shaped conductor track made of gold or nickel on an insulation layer made of magnesia oxide, which in turn is arranged on an absorber layer made of gold. This embodiment is very sensitive to mechanical stress because of the risk of breakage of the insulation layer and difficult to manufacture because of the easily occurring formation of holes in the insulation layer and the associated risk of short circuits. The mean service life of such a bolometer is therefore relatively short.
In a publication of the Batelle Institute eV Frankfurt, 479 / Ο.5, a further embodiment of a bolometer is described in which the bolometer strip consists of a meander-shaped conductor track made of gold, which is on a self-supporting insulation layer made of aluminum

The invention is based on the object of specifying embodiments of a bolometer which avoid the disadvantages mentioned above.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by the characterizing features of claims 1 and 2.
The advantages achieved by the invention are in particular that the proposed bolometer a have a very small mass and thus a very low heat capacity, which results in a high radiation sensitivity with a small time constant. The bolometers have a mechanically stable structure high functional reliability and service life and leave manufacture yourself in a simple way.
Weitere vorteilhafte Ausbildungen entnimmt man den Unteransprüchen.Further advantageous designs can be found in the subclaims.

Ein solches Bolometer ist besonders zur Messung der Strahlungsflüsse in Kernfusionsmaschinen geeignet.1a-c show a bolometer with a quasi self-supporting bolometer strip 1 in the form of a meander-shaped conductor track, for example made of gold or nickel. A gold or nickel layer is applied to a carrier layer (not shown), preferably by electroplating, which layer is structured into a meandering bolometer strip 1 by means of known photolithography. As can be seen from FIGS. Due to the support grid 2, the quasi self-supporting meander-shaped bolometer strip experiences sufficient mechanical stability. Then the bolometer strip 1 together with the support grid 2 is pulled off the carrier layer and clamped with its reinforced end pieces h, which serve as contact connections, in a holder (not shown). The strips of the support grid 2 can be arranged in any way, for example also in a cross shape, depending on the desired stability of the bolometer strip 1. Such a bolometer is particularly suitable for measuring the radiation fluxes in nuclear fusion machines.
The application of the bolometer strip 6 and the absorber layer 8 to the insulation layer 5 can be carried out by electroplating, sputtering or vapor deposition. Such a bolometer is primarily suitable for measuring radiation energy from the infrared to the ultraviolet range.
