Description

Process for chroming objects made of iron or steel in It has been suggested to put objects made of iron or steel in a salt bath their surface. to enrich chromium, that they can be enriched with chromium or ferrochrome heated together in a salt bath. It had also been recognized as beneficial to the Salt bath also still add such chlorides, which are chemical with the chromium Sales form chromochloride, which is then deposited with the surface of the objects of chromium can react. This way the chromium is in one place for enrichment particularly favorable finely divided form presented by diffusion.

It has now been found that when chrome-plating objects made of iron and steel particularly good results in terms of thickness and appearance of the chromium-enriched Zone can be achieved if the chromochloride formation in the bathroom is not itself leaves, but increases it as needed. It would be obvious to have this intention to be realized by having a sufficiently high surcharge from the start of chromochloride to the salt bath; but it turns out that then a considerable loss of chromochloride occurs through evaporation and therefore the The concentration of chromochloride changes significantly during the process. In general however, an even concentration during the entire duration of the work is desirable. To achieve this purpose you can now according to the invention, for. B. in the salt bath introduce a stream of hydrogen chloride. the one with the chromium in the salt bath or ferrochrome reacts to form chromochloride, the amount of hydrogen chloride can be regulated as desired depending on the chromochloride requirement. It is the same with good effect, the chromium or ferrochrome to be introduced into the salt bath is also available beforehand at higher temperatures, e.g. B. red heat to be treated in a stream of hydrogen chloride and the metal loaded with chromochloride in this way continues in the course of the Process to add to the salt bath as needed.

The objects treated according to this process get shorter Time thicker zones than objects made after the chromating process described in the introduction chromi.ert «-erden. The objects chromed according to the invention stand out externally also by a smoother and more attractive surface. So that the Post-treatment that is otherwise often necessary can generally be omitted.
