Description
Arrangement for generating flashes of light in one with two of the same Electrodes fitted with vapor or gas-filled discharge lamps for ° alternating current The invention relates to an arrangement for generating flashes of light in a with two identical electric blinds, vapor or gas-filled discharge lamp for alternating current. With such an arrangement the peculiarity resulted so far; that the lamp is turned on twice in j or period, i.e. H. during both half-waves, lit up. This is not required for many applications. One can now in the cases in which only one flash of light is to be generated per period, the arrangement is like this change that instead of discharge lamps with two identical electrids discharge lamps, in which a rectification takes place, can be provided. It is also known to generate flashes of light with a frequency that is less than is the frequency of the feeding alternating current.
The invention relates to an arrangement to the Generating flashes of light in one. with two identical electrodes provided with steam or gas-filled discharge lamp for alternating current, at which the frequency of the light flashes is equal to the frequency of the feeding alternating current. According to the invention this is achieved by the fact that in the supply circuit of the discharge lamp such switching elements, such as B. a direct current pre-magnet activated choke or rectify @ deElemente, which have significantly different resistances in the two current directions. are switched on.
In ASS. i of the drawing is an embodiment of the invention Figure 3 illustrates in which a DC biased choke coil is provided. The vapor or gas-filled discharge lamp i is available as a lamp with two cold Electrodes shown and on. connected to the AC network. In the case, -that the lamp requires a different voltage than the one available a transformer 3 is provided. So now the lamp is only in one of the two half-waves Every period lights up, a choke coil is through in the lamp circuit Direct current saturable core q. switched on. The AC winding 5 is in Series connected to lamp i. The DC saturation winding: g 6 can be of any DC power source are fed. It is particularly advantageous if the core .I the choke coil has a high permeability In series with the direct current winding 6 the inductor 7 is connected, which has an air gap 8 in the magnetic circuit having. For the sake of simplicity, the arrangement is shown so that, the DC winding 6 is fed from the alternating current network 2 via the full-wave rectifier system g. However, any other direct current source can also be used instead. Fig. 2 shows the mode of operation of the arrangement according to Fig. I. Suppose @ that during the positive half-waves 1 the current in: the winding 5 so directed is that it, together with the direct current winding 6, saturates the core : l. achieved. The curve io, which represents the lamp voltage, then rises steeply from zero to the ignition value, and the discharge in lamp i begins. Thereupon the voltage drops to a slightly lower value and maintains this during the largest part of the positive half-wave. The current corresponding to this voltage for the lamp is shown by curve 12. He rises to you very quickly -Maximum and then falls again to zero and creates a very high in the lamp bright flash of light. During the following negative half-wave 13, the core is q. unsaturated, the effects of the windings 5 and 6 cancel each other out. For this reason, the choke offers a great resistance to the flow of current, so that the voltage appearing on the lamp is not sufficient to ignite the same and bring it to light emission. However, the voltage in the negative half-wave is sufficient to the ionization generated by the previous positive half-wave is to maintain. At the moment when the voltage is applied to the lamp becomes positive again, the lamp is able to ignite, and the «-head described above The process is repeated in the same way.
With a low resistance of the rectifier g compared to that in the direct current winding 6 indu = ed alternating current, the choke coil 7 serves both to limit a Short-circuit current in the lamp circuit and the peak value of the current flow through the lamp. Because the lamp is only discharged during the half-waves of one polarity takes place, e.g. B. only during the positive half-waves, there are only as many Flashes of light like positive half waves. This way is the frequency of the flashes of light equal to the frequency of the feeding alternating current. This is shown in Fig. 3, where the curve., -, i4 represents the luminous flux that the lamp generates during a period.
Another embodiment of the invention is shown in ASb.:I. The corresponding elements in Fig. I have been given the same reference numerals. Instead of the iron-filled choke coil, however, a rectifier 16 is provided here, which is connected in series with lamp i. The rectifier 16 is through the Resistor 15 bridged. This resistance 15 is so great that in the half-waves, in which the rectifier blocks the flow of current, only such a voltage of the lamp i allows the ionization to be maintained. Such a Resistance has z. B. a value of 50oo to 10000 ohms. Instead of one to the rectifier 16 resistor 15 connected in parallel, you can also use a rectifier, .which itself has the correct resistance in the reverse direction.
The present invention can be used for various technical purposes apply advantageously. You can 'z. B. use for cinema projectors, the Discharge lamlx serves as a light source. In this case you can do without the cover, when the number of projected images is equal to the reverberation wave frequency of the @ # AC power source is. It has z. B. the @ \ 'ecliselstromqtielle a frequency of 5: o Hz and the switching mechanism des Projei: tors is designed in such a way that he 25 Bibder per second gives. Then it is necessary to synchronize the flashes of light so that they only in: the times when the film stands still. Obviously it will in this way, each 134,11d is projected twice, once for each flash of light, and these two projectors serve the same purpose as the fli.mmer panel.
Another field of application of the lamp according to the present invention lies in it-. create a light source for receiving moving objects, d. H. a strobe. During the times when the camera shutter is closed, is it is not necessary to illuminate the Eden subject. with maximum brightness to illuminate. In this way a greater profitability can be achieved, by synchronizing the camera shutter with Iden flashes of light. When the frequency of the alternating current is 50 Hz and the camera takes 25 pictures per second, then the movement of the diaphragm is coordinated in such a way that the flashes of light, idie in @ the covered times arise, do not cause any exposure. However, it is more advantageous in this case to use a lower frequency alternating current, e.g. B. 25 periods per second, and operate the camera shutter at the usual speed, In order to never use a standard number in this way, i. H. 25 frames per second. In this case, all generated flashes of light can be used for exposure, which is in the interest of great economy.
