Description

In the production of alkaline solutions in cells that use this as a cathode acting mercury after its loading with alkali metal in countercurrent to the water there was the difficulty of preventing an excessively strong mixture the resulting from the reaction between amalgam and water: lye is going on. In order to remedy this disadvantage - the decomposer cell has already been proposed to be divided into several chambers connected in series. In this known device The amalgam-containing mercury flows from one chamber into the next through each two adjacent chambers connecting pipes or through installed in the partition walls Slits, while the water or the lye takes a different route. Such a one Arrangement has proven to be disadvantageous in that the connecting lines for the amalgam or the openings in the partition walls by means of fixed amounts of amalgam butter clog up.

It has now been found that these difficulties can be easily overcome can by dividing the decomposer cell in this some from above into dipping the aqueous solution until it is just above the surface of the mercury Attaches weirs. These weirs also make it possible that the entrance and Set various specific weights of the caustic solution at the outlet of the caustic cell and can hold. However, accumulations of amalgam butter are largely prevented. As a result, in contrast to the known arrangement in which as a result of Use of relatively small flow openings (slots) blockages through Amalgam butter are unavoidable, cleaning of the cells only at very long intervals made to. «-Ground what both from the standpoint of industrial hygiene and the Economy is of great importance.

In the schematic. Drawing is the construction example explained. In this i means the. Badkasten, 2 the Deck-21 with the one on it. fortified Defend 3, .I the mercury flowing in the direction of the arrow while- the aqueous solution moves in the opposite direction. The level heights of the aqueous Solution a1, uz, a. etc. depend on the density of the department in question existing lye.
