Nummernschilder für Kraftfahrzeuge sind relativ dünn, um die Buchstaben und Zahlen mit einem so geringen Aufwand wie möglich einprägen zu können. Soweit die Nummernschilder satt auf einem Untergrund, z.B. auf dem ebenen Teil einer Karosserie, aufliegen, ist dies kein Nachteil. Soweit sie jedoch lediglich teilweise aufliegen, z.B. an der vorderen Stoßstange des Kraftfahrzeugs befestigt sind, biegen sie sich schon bei geringer Belastung durch und werden schwer lesbar und unansehnlich. Es ist daher bekannt, dem Nummernschild einen Träger aus stabilerem Material unterzulegen. Das dabei auftretende Problem besteht darin, daß Nummernschilder unterschiedlich lang sind. So sind in der Bundesrepublik Nummernschilder mit einer Länge von 52, 49, 48, 46, 44, 43 und 40 cm gängig. Es ist folglich bowohl aus Gründen der guten Auflage und stabilen Befestigung als auch aus ästhetischen Gründen notwendig, den Träger dc-i Abmessungen der Nummernschilder anzupassen. Will man vermeiden, daß für jede Abmessung des Nummernschilds ein Träger bereit gestellt wird,, iiuß der Träger verstellbar ausgeführt sein. Es ist bekannt, Träger aus Aluminium in zwei Teilen auszuführen, die gegeneinander auf das gewünschte Maß des Nummernschilds verschiebbar und arretierbar sind. Bei der Neuerung gewährleistet das für Platte und Leiste gewählte Material einerseits die Stabilität, die ein Träger für ein Nummernschild auf v/eisen muß, andererseits die Nachgiebigkeit, die für den Fall einer Berührung mit einem Fremdkörper zur Vermeidung von Schaden führt. Der Randwulst stabilisiert die Platte, erleichtert das Einlegen des Nummernschildes und gibt der gesamten Arxrdnung ein gutes Aussehen.
