Description
Electric alkali, especially sodium vapor discharge lamp with one or more alkaline earth metal-containing glow electrodes. It is known that the types of glass usually used for the production of discharge lamps are strongly attacked by alkali metal vapors. Types of glass are also known which are resistant to the action of these vapors and can thus be used for the production of discharge lamps with an alkali metal vapor filling. In particular, a glass is also known that does not contain silicon oxide and consists mainly of boron oxide to which one or more other oxides, such as alkali, alkaline earth, aluminum or magnesium oxide, are added. An example of such a glass is z. B. the following compilation mentioned 60 ° / 0 B, 0 " 15 ° / o Al, 0" 13% Na, 0 and 12% Ca 0. - Later this glass for the manufacture of alkali metal vapor discharge lamps was abandoned because it is short and brittle and therefore difficult to work with, and also quite easily weathered. That is why a move has been made to use a borosilicate glass which, in addition to a considerable percentage of boron oxide, also contains a considerable percentage (but not more than 50%) of silicon oxide. With this glass, which does not have the disadvantages of silicon oxide-free glass indicated above, satisfactory results have been obtained in the production of sodium clamp lines. It has now been found that under certain. Under certain circumstances, the use of this borosilicate glass containing silicon oxide can give rise to difficulties. If the discharge lamp contains a glow electrode on which there is an alkaline earth metal or an alkaline earth metal compound, the alkaline earth metal which, vaporized or atomized by this electrode, reaches the wall, has an unfavorable effect on the glass insofar as it improves its permeability the wall is receding for rays of light. This is due to the fact that the silicon oxide is more easily reduced by alkaline earth metal than by alkali metal, e.g. B. Sodium. The glass is therefore less resistant to the alkaline earth metal than to the alkali metal.
The invention relates to the known electrical alkali, in particular Sodium vapor discharge lamp with one or more alkaline earth metals Incandescent electrodes and consists in the fact that with this Entladungslämpe._ the one with the lamp filling gas interior surface of the lamp cover in contact with practically silicon oxide-free, to a considerable percentage of glass consisting of boron oxide, the usual glass former, such as alkali, alkaline earth, aluminum or magnesium oxides are added and outside against atmospheric influences by covering them with one against them Influences resistant Glass, primarily the usual incandescent glass, is protected.
In many cases it is difficult to keep the glass completely free of silicon oxide to keep. Small admixtures of this oxide may, however, remain in the glass undamaged occurrence.
An sich sind schon gegen Metalldämpfe widerstandsfähige Gläser bekannt, die gut verarbeitbar. und mit üblichen Elektrodenbaustoffen leicht v erschmelzbar sind und überdies einen hohen Erweichungspunkt und eine günstige Wetterbeständigkeit aufweisen sollen; diese Gläser enthalten einen wesentlichen Prozentsatz Borsäure, höchstens 450/0 Tonerde, an vierwertigen Oxyden, Antimonoxyd, Arsenoxyd, Bleioxyd und Alkalioxyden, zusammen höchstens 5 % und an zweiwertigen Oxyden insgesamt mindesten, 60;0 und höchstens 8o0/0; weiter beträgt bei diesen Gläsern die Summe aus dem anderthalbfachen Gehalt an zweiwertigen Oxyden außer Bleioxvd und dem Gehalt an Tonerde mindestens 45 0/0.Glasses that are resistant to metal vapors are known per se, which are easy to process. and easily fusible with common electrode building materials are and moreover a high softening point and a favorable weather resistance should have; these glasses contain a significant percentage of boric acid, at most 450/0 alumina, tetravalent oxides, antimony oxide, arsenic oxide, lead oxide and alkali oxides, together not more than 5% and of divalent oxides in total at least, 60; 0 and at most 8o0 / 0; furthermore, the sum of these glasses is one and a half times Content of bivalent oxides except lead oxide and the content of alumina at least 45 0/0.
The above-mentioned knowledge on which the invention is based was carried out this known rule just as little suggested as the teaching according to the invention, the mentioned disadvantages due to the use of the described, practically silicon oxide-free Avoid glass. This well-known rule includes both types of glass without silicon oxide. It was therefore not immediately given for the expert in solving the problem according to the invention, so with the alkali vapor lamp Alkaline earth metal-containing glow electrodes to choose the silicon oxide-free glasses and to cover the outside with a weatherproof glass.
