Description
Process for coating aluminum and aluminum alloys with Metals It is known to manufacture aluminum and aluminum alloys by roll cladding or to cover them with metal layers by galvanic processes, the other Composition have as the base metal. However, these procedures cannot be used in apply in all cases. The roll cladding z. B. can only be used in the Use of sheet metal production. In the case of galvanic leveling, however, are Long; Treatment times necessary if a thicker metal layer is desired. At. some metals, e.g. B. with tin and zinc, it is difficult at all, to apply the same firmly adhering to aluminum without special metal intermediate layers. It has already been proposed to produce metallic coatings Aluminum and its alloys cover the surface to be coated with a molten one Salt of the coating metal, optionally mixed with halogen salts of the fixed To keep alkalis or alkaline earths in contact for so long; until by decomposition of the molten salt, a coating is applied, whereupon the coating z. B. by electrolytic precipitation or by melting any metal is reinforced. However, such a method is when using thin aluminum parts not applicable because of the relatively high temperatures of the molten salt the thin aluminum parts are attacked or destroyed too much. , You already have often tried to use aluminum directly with the appropriate ones Plating metals. So there are some brazing preparations that can be used by application higher temperatures and special fluxes a coating of aluminum with Enable foreign metals. Since the temperatures required for this are generally are high, one can only use smaller areas with more satisfactory results using this method Overstrain evenness. The same applies to the metallization process after Principle of reaction soldering or of the processes in which the surface does this Aluminum. mechanically under a molten metal is processed, to bring about the connection between aluminum and the melt.
So vorbereitete Aluminiumoberflächen nehmen beim Eintauchen z. B. in Zink- oder Zinnschmelzen diese Metalle ohne weiteres an.Contrary to expectations based on the previously known attempts for coating aluminum and aluminum alloys with other metals in the Shrink flow has now grown. found that aluminum and Aluminum-; Alloys for hot metal plating can be well prepared if it pretreated with zincate solutions with or without the addition of heavy metals. So prepared Aluminum surfaces take z. B. in zinc or tin melts this Metals without further ado.
Although it is already known for the production of galvanic deposits on aluminum and aluminum alloys the objects to be coated with a to pretreat zincate stain containing copper salts if necessary. However, since the Fire metallization and galvanization are the main differences in principle have and therefore measures that are advantageous in the latter, often with fail the former treatment, it was not to be expected that the inventive Process would prove useful in melt flow metallization.
Beispiel i Aluminium bzw. Example i Aluminum or aluminum alloys are processed according to the usual Degreasing and DC capping immersed in the following solution: 11 water, 400 g caustic soda, i 20 g zinc sulfate.
Sobald eine genügende Zinkschicht aufgezogen ist, was in etwa i bis 5 Minuten der Fall ist, wird abgespült und in geschmolzenem Zink feuerverzinkt. As soon as a sufficient zinc layer is applied, which is about i to 5 minutes is the case, is rinsed and hot-dip galvanized in molten zinc.
Example 2 Degreased and pickled aluminum is treated in a solution of 400 g caustic soda, 70 , -, zinc oxide, 30 g cyan copper potassium, until a firmly adhering, covering metal layer appears, for which about 1 1/2 to q. Minutes are required. This is followed by rinsing and then immersed in molten zinc-aluminum alloy to produce the desired coating. The pretreatment can also be carried out at an elevated temperature. The suitable composition of the pretreatment baths can easily be determined from case to case through experiments. It is essential that solutions are used which provide the most dense, cohesive deposit possible and adhering to the aluminum. It is possible to apply not only zinc and zinc-aluminum alloys, as described in the examples, but also tin, zinc-tin, tin-lead or similar alloys to the aluminum surface in a firmly adhering manner in this manner in the melt flow.
Have the precipitates applied by the method described a considerable layer thickness, so that it is in contrast to parts that are after galvanic Processes are treated, have a metal coating in a very short time, which provides good protection against corrosion.
The process described can also be used to make aluminum parts to be soldered together by placing the parts prepared according to the invention under corresponding Pressing against each other immersed in the melt. One can also proceed in such a way that the parts to be connected are first metallized separately in the melt flow and then subsequently with appropriate squeezing above the melting point of the in Question coming metal to be heated. Another way is that one of two parts to be connected first with one in the manner described a layer of metal and this piece then later with a second heated with squeezing above the melting point of the metal in question. This second piece is also in accordance with the specifications of the present invention pretreatment to make a connection with the solder.
