Description
Muffler for racing engines with two in one housing perforated tubes serve as inlet and outlet tubes. The invention relates to a silencer for internal combustion engines, in which two perforated tubes in a housing as inlet or outlet pipe serve.
There are known mufflers that act in a simple manner by that outgoing exhaust pipes from the engine open into a cavity and here the gases out of holes. enter the cavity. The gases then arrive from the cavity in the same way into a perforated outlet tube. Form with this arrangement. themselves standing waves from '(resonances) in both the inlet and outlet pipes, which limit the attenuation.
According to the invention, the sound attenuation is now set up so that: that the ends of the two perforated tubes are brought up to the housing wall and these Ends with arranged outside the housing, filled with sound absorbing material Caps are closed.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention it is provided that the caps filled with sound absorbent are removable.
Finally, according to the invention, these caps are designed as union nuts or sleeves to be flanged on, so that they can be replaced or cleaned at any time of the sound absorbing substance.
In the accompanying drawing is an example of a training Silencer shown according to the invention.
..Two tubes provided with holes are provided in a housing. The exhaust gases enter the interior of the housing through pipe 2, by the tube 3 off again. The pipe z is connected to the exhaust line and on on the right, i.e. closed end, provided with Seball absorbent. This lock can e.g. B. so executed stone that a kind of union nut q. That the sound absorbent 5 contains, is screwed onto the pipe end. The pipe 3 through which the gases be derived again, has to his left. End the deal. This is in the drawing so shown that a sleeve 6 with a flange 7 on: the housing i is attached. The sleeve 6 again contains sound-absorbing substance 5. ..
The process in the silencer according to the invention is something like this: The Sound waves occurring in the inlet pipe would be reflected at a closed end and lead to loud vibrations. By attaching a sound absorbent Connection piece takes place strong sound absorption, so .that only part of the sound wave in. the outlet pipe enters. In: this takes place, as is well known, in the outlet opening a reflection that creates returning sound waves that return in the one at the other End-attached pads made of sound-absorbing material can be added. Like comparison tests have shown correctly, the difference in volume is about 6 to S Phon, i.e. H. So that when using this: silencer according to the invention a significant better damping of the exhaust noise is achieved.
