Description
The versatile use of centrifugal force for separating solid, especially plastic Substances of liquids' requires a suitable training of the centrifuge-S drums. When building these drums, the aim should be as far as possible in all places of the interior there is a uniform separation of the material to be centrifuged, d. H. it must be avoided that ineffective dead spaces arise for the separation process. It is true that the more or less favorable mode of operation of the drums can be determined by experiments can be determined in which certain properties, such as the degree of dehydration, water, Oil content, among other things, of the separated products leaving the centrifugal drums can serve as a basis for assessment. Such experiments prove, however, as has been shown usually only has the qualitatively satisfactory mode of operation of the centrifugal drum, without also with regard to the more or less perfect utilization of the separation space. allow safe conclusions to be drawn about the drum and its appropriate interior design.
Ersteres, als schwererer Bestandteil, strömt nach der PeripherieIt is Z. B. known, by means of centrifugal drums in cooled mixtures of paraffinic mineral or synthetic oils with heavy solvents, such as. B. trichlorethylene to separate excreted paraffin from the liquid portion. A known drum used for this process is shown in Fig. 1. The mixture introduced into the machine at A enters the separating space of the drum at B. The centrifugal force separates the mixture into solvent-based, dewaxed oil and weakly solvent-based paraffin. The former, as the heavier component, flows to the periphery
The paraffin, on the other hand, initially forms a cylindrical casing O inside the drum, which fits tightly on the hollow axis / 7 of the drum. Paraffin particles are continuously fed to this casing from the actual separation space H, which is equipped with sliding plates Γ for better guidance of the mixture to be separated, while de-oiled, weakly solvent-containing paraffin is continuously removed from /. The paraffin leaves the centrifugal drum on the further path to K.LM. If the drum described were correctly adapted to the particular purpose of use, the paraffin layer would have to receive new paraffin particles uniformly along its entire height NO from the separation space H , and the paraffin cylinder would have to have its parts by mass migrate uniformly over its entire height in the direction PQ . Usually this is not the case.
According to the invention, the design and division of the separating space of the centrifugal drum is now made made on the basis of preliminary tests, in which the mixture of plastic solids to be broken down .-ι »and liquids, e.g. B. a solid paraffin containing "oil, at times adding substances which are finely distributed in it, in particular dissolved and give it a different shade, so that the way of the plastic Substance can be recognized by the colored cake formed in the drum.
It was first found in this way that the migration of the paraffin particles does not take place at all in the manner described above. The way to this conclusion and thus results in the construction of better shaped, fully utilized drums practically as follows:
During operation, the mixture flowing in at A and to be separated, e.g. B. a suspension of paraffin in a liquid mixture of oil and a chlorinated hydrocarbon, for a short time, e.g. B. ι minute, mixed with a soluble dye or another, the color of the mixture changing agent, then the centrifugal drum is stopped, opened and the now exposed paraffin coat is cut vertically. The cross-section then shows the image shown in Fig. 2. Part of the cross-section, /?, Is colored while another part, 5, has remained uncolored. It can be seen from this that the drum is only used in its lower part corresponding to zone R , while the upper part marked by zone 5 is dead, ie ineffective as a separating space. This provides a reliable indication of the appropriate design of the drum interior, so that the mixture entering the drum at B fFig.i) is evenly distributed in the separation zone // and can therefore also be "evenly separated."
-8< >As an example of a highly effective design of the drum, it should be mentioned that the separating plates T installed in the separating space H are installed in the lower part of the drum at smaller distances from one another, and at increasing distances towards the upper part of the drum, in such a way that the separating space // is charged evenly with the mixture to be separated and consequently the paraffin is evenly separated axially from the mixture. -8 <>
It has already been suggested that the forms of movement of liquids thereby determine that one adds a dye to this. In the present case however, it is a matter of determining the movement of mixtures of plastic solids and liquids in an operating drum. In this case it is easily possible to follow the path of one of the mixture to determine the existing components, namely the plastic solid, and therefore, because it is capable of producing one in the drum. Forming cake. When dismantling of liquids would be such a work- 'JS wise impossible, because after the drum has stopped the position of the liquids has a is completely different than when the drum is in operation.
