Description
It is already known, an indirectly heated cathode for cathode ray tubes such to form that a tube, which lies in the axis of the cathode ray tube, lined on the inside with the electron-emitting substance at its anode-side end and that the hairpin-shaped heating wire protrudes into the tube at the other end, with a partition in between that space which contains the emitting substance and that in which the heating wire is located is. This cathode design has the disadvantage that, on the one hand, none are satisfactory de concentration of the electron beam comes about, and that on the other hand the im Space between the cathode and the anode formed ions all on the emitting Impact with the substance and lead to the destruction of this substance.
According to the invention, an indirectly heated point cathode for cathode ray tubes is intended with a metal tube open at one end, which is inside contains a hairpin-shaped heating element, can be constructed so that that of the anode facing end of the tube is compressed hemispherically such that it only has a small opening, and that this is so filled with emitting matter is that this mass is slightly deepened compared to the edge of the opening mentioned and has a concave surface. With such a cathode design, a cathode ray is very much formed small cross-section than those on the active cathode surface Lines of force in the first part of the electron orbit converge and therefore the beam too at a short distance from the cathode has a smaller cross-section than that clear opening at the compressed end of the tube. So one can, because the lines of force converge in the first Part of the electron path results in correspondingly curved potential surfaces, too speak of a beam-gathering lens effect. This forms in front of the cathode electric lens also has the consequence that the formed along the beam path Ions, which fly towards the cathode, diverge in the immediate vicinity of it, so that the ion bombardment of the emitting surface is actually very low.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 of the drawing.

Materials zu beseitigen, und sodann der Heiz-open and at its right end A 1 is compressed in such a way that a small opening A 2 remains. FIG. 2 shows the view of the tube from the end. and FIG. 3 is a view of the tube from the end of 1 . The assembly of the Ka'- * method proceeds as follows: In the tube A, which can have a diameter of about 1.2 mm, a plug (not shown) is inserted at the upper end A 3 o, which almost completely fills the tube . The remaining space and the opening A 2 , as shown in FIG. 4, are filled with the emissive mass, which can expediently consist of a paste of strontium and barium carbonates. The whole thing is then dried and the stopper is removed again. Then the hemispherical end of the tube is polished to remove all traces of the emitting. Material, and then the heating
