Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The method for the preparation of Potassium carbonate from potassium sulfate can expediently be used at the same time as the utilization the lime- and calcium-chromate-containing residues which combine during the digestion process of chrome ores with alkali carbonate and calcium carbonate or hydroxide and subsequent leaching of the melt. This can be done by neutralizing the potassium sulfate and potassium dichromate, those residues in a finely divided state used. The advantages obtained thereby are twofold. On the one hand are in the leaching residues, which are caused by the disintegration of the chrome ores the mentioned agents always yield 3 to 4 pCt. chromic acid lime present, which would otherwise remain in the residue and be lost. When using these residues to neutralize the solution containing potassium sulfate and potassium dichromate however, there is an interaction between the potassium sulfate and the calcium chromate instead, with chromic acid and sulfuric acid exchanging their place. Be that way the last residues of chromic acid, which η the leaching residues are still present are recovered.
The second advantage which is essential in practice and which results from the use of the above-mentioned Leach residues can be seen in the considerable savings in lime, since the aging residues on average 7OpCt. Contain lime and, in a fairly extensive farm, the entire lime requirement or at least the greater part of it, which is used for the conversion of the potassium sulfate after the Main patent is required by which these arrears can be covered.
Die Reaction verläuft hierbei nach folgender Gleichung:The leaching residues are, as far as they are not already caused by the leaching process itself are transformed into sludge, crushed by any device and the solution of equivalent parts of potassium sulfate and potassium dichromate were added. The reaction proceeds here according to the following equation:
(1 + x) K2SO4 + K2Cr2O7+ CaH2 O2 (1 + x) K 2 SO 4 + K 2 Cr 2 O 7 + CaH 2 O 2
+ χ Ca Cr O4 = (2 + χ) K2 Cr O4 + χ Ca Cr O 4 = (2 + χ) K 2 Cr O 4
+ (ι +x) CaSO^H2O. + (ι + x) CaSO ^ H 2 O.
Die auf diese Weise sich ergebende Kaliumchromatlauge wird alsdann nach dem Verfahren des Haupt-PatentesThe resulting precipitate of calcium sulfate is used together with the admixtures of silica, iron oxide and alumina, which are added to the leaching residues were deposited as a precipitate and separated from the solution. That way The resulting potassium chromate liquor is then processed according to the method of the main patent
durch Behandlung mit Kohlensäure auf Kaliumcarbonat weiter verarbeitet.further processed by treatment with carbonic acid on potassium carbonate.
