made a number of partly contradicting requirements.
The rings used for sealing should be as close as possible to the cylinder wall so that no compression is lost in the cylinder. On the other hand, the friction between the piston rings and the cylinder wall should be as low as possible in order not to unnecessarily reduce the efficiency of the machine. In addition, the piston rings will not seize even at high thermal loads and their power should also even keep still loading if they: have once been expanded with the piston from the cylinder to achieve maximum service life of the piston rings.
Cast iron has often been used as the material for the piston rings.
However, such piston rings cannot completely meet all requirements.
besteht in ihrer sehr kleinen Dehnung.
Cast iron is a material that is known not to have a very dense structure
and, moreover, can never be `` completely smooth-walled ''. Consequently
When cast iron rings slide on other metal, there are high friction losses
and. a continuously increasing wear, since the friction of course @
grows with the degree of wear and tear. Another flaw of the cast iron piston rings
consists in their very small elongation. In addition, they are subject to so-called growth (structural change
while increasing the volume), exposed and have no clear inside
State of tension. As a result, the rings break very easily when entering or
Expand or at least lose their tension.
laufen, so
erhält man verhältnismäßig schlechte Gleitverhältnisse.
It is also known for the manufacture of bronze piston rings
to use. It has also been proposed that the cylinder sliding surfaces be nitrided
Use steel or bronze. However, see the proposals that have become known so far
always for one. of the two surfaces a certain material in front, while the
second surface is left to the choice of the designer. The reason for that
is evidently to be sought in the fact that up to now one has only looked at the material according to cost, weight
and hardness, but has not yet recognized that really good sliding conditions
can only be achieved if you have one for both surfaces sliding on top of each other
Selects material with a dense structure. The advantages of a material with a dense structure
but only have an effect if it is on another material with a dense
Structure runs. But if you let z. B. by kneading compacted bronze on cast iron
run like that
relatively poor sliding conditions are obtained.
As I said, it is important that the two materials slide on each other
fill very specific conditions.
kannter Weise beiderseitig in abgerundete Ecken
The subject matter of the invention is a piston seal which meets the requirements to be placed on it without having the disadvantages of the known piston seals. This is achieved by combining the following features: which is characterized in that one of the two sliding parts is made of bronze, which is compacted and homogenized by kneading, while the other is made of steel, which is tempered and also hardened on the surface , for example by Kohlenstoffhärtung or nitriding, and also that of the piston ring against the cylinder surface with a cylindrical surface; rests to which join mutually leaking in rounded corners, slightly conical tapered surfaces in a known per se. Which of the two sliding parts, made of bronze and which is made of steel, is fundamentally irrelevant to the idea of the invention. By the interaction of such mechanically compacted fine structures and of Kolhenringe finite of the specified, known shape, an excellent continuous running of the two parts is achieved without any noteworthy wear and tear occurring. This results from the fact that a sliding movement under pressure is generally only possible if the two sliding surfaces are separated by an oil film in between. However, the necessary complete separation is not possible with any material for the piston rings and the cylinder wall, since not every substance gives the oil the same good adhesion. It has been proven, for example, that a non-homogeneous bronze structure, in which hard crystals are embedded in a soft base material, tears the oil film, since the hard crystals cut the oil film to a certain extent, so that a metallic contact takes place between the surfaces sliding on each other, which is considerable Causes wear. In-depth tests have now shown that a homogeneous insert in the bronze, as can be achieved by kneading and compacting, and a hardened or nitrided structure on the steel running surface enables the necessary adhesion of the oil. A prerequisite for the possibility of the formation of an oil film is Faber that the surfaces sliding on one another have such a shape that an oil film can be formed. This possibility is created in the design of the piston ring according to the invention that the conical surfaces of the piston ring provided at the two ends enclose wedge-shaped cavities between them and the cylinder wall, into which the lubricant is sucked and in which its pressure is increased at the same time until it is its Maximum value is given at the point where the conical surfaces merge into the common cylinder surface lying between them. A film of the lubricant forms along the cylinder surface, which is under increased pressure and therefore has a good sealing effect. The length of the cylinder surface is so great that the lubricant cannot flow away from the cylinder surface due to the hydrodynamic pressure difference in the lubricating film between the center and the end of the sliding surfaces, and the lubricating film is thus constantly maintained. The rounding of the edges of the piston ring prevents the oil film from jamming or tearing. -In the accompanying drawing, an embodiment of a piston seal according to the invention is shown, which should be understandable without further explanation.
