Flux for the molten coating of metals with cadmium
or its alloys and processes = for its manufacture and refreshment Die
Invention relates to flux for the molten coating of metals with
Cadmium or its alloys and processes for their manufacture and regeneration.
It has already been proposed to use flux for coating
To use metals with molten cadmium, the zinc, tin and lead chlorides
contain. When using this flux, however, it turned out that the oxidation products
of the cadmium pass quickly into the flux, so that it has the desired effect
no longer has and can no longer be refreshed.
According to the present invention, a flux is provided which consists of
a mixture of one or more alkali halogens, the predominantly chlorides
and / or bromides, especially those of lithium, potassium or sodium together with
Contains cadmium chloride, the latter being wholly or partly due to cadmium bromide
can be replaced. The oxidation products of cadmium form on the surface
this middle of the river only after prolonged use. Furthermore can. the flux,
after @it is remarkably polluted, easily using ammonium chloride
or bromide are refreshed without the cadmium or the kadmium alloy bath
to contaminate somehow. The previously used fluxes can be applied to this
Way not to be freshened up. _ The - flux of the invention, which significantly
provides improved results, consists of a mixture of cadmium chloride and /
or bromide and your or more alkali salts, consisting of the chlorides and bromides
the three all-metal metals lithium, potassium and sodium can be selected. Such a thing
Flux is liquid at low temperatures, includes a bath of molten
Cadmium or a cadmium alloy completely absorbs into the air, does not form any.
Coating on the in the molten metal through the top layer of the flux
objects immersed through it and is for use over long periods of time
suitable. In addition to these and other important advantages, this flux
can be easily refreshed by adding ammonium chloride and / or bromide
can, which presumably according to the equation Cd0 + z N H "Cl = CdC12 + z N H3 -; H20 before
is going. In fact, the flux can be made initially by adding ammonium chloride
or bromide to a suitable one
Alkali salt mixture on the surface
of the bath, with the required cadmium chloride coming out of the weld bath
forms by itself. These wet-nium salts also serve to have the cleansing effect
to improve and lower the melting point of the flux.
hoher. Schmelzpunkt, während die Jodide verhältnismäßig unbeständig sind.As an embodiment according to the invention, a flux, which consisted of 580/0 cadmium chloride, 220, b potassium chloride and 2o0, `0 sodium chloride and which melts at about 354 ° C, was used as a cover for a cadmium alloy bath, which was used for molten coating of Objects was used. The objects brought into the molten alloy through the flux remained completely clean, thereby allowing them to be instantly wetted by the alloy. From time to time ammonium chloride was added, as well as small amounts of the binary salt mixture, which contains 520.0 potassium chloride and 480.0 sodium chloride, and after 24 hours of continuous treatment the flux did not form an insoluble sludge. While the particular CdCh-KC1-Na C1 mixture mentioned above is advantageous and important in that it approaches the ternary eutectic point, other ratios can be used with excellent results. Likewise, the bromides can be used in place of the chi @ orides with satisfactory results, and ammonium bromide can be used in the refreshing process. A flux which consists of Cd Br .-% Br-Na Br and which has a melting point of only 288 ° C gave good results. Likewise, lithium chloride or lithium bromide can be used both as a substitute as well as in connection with the chlorides and / or bromides of the calcium, or sodium. In general, the choice of salts used will be determined by their cost. .1 * In practice it has been found that the
"should exist because significant amounts of alkali fluids and / or iodides have an adverse effect on the flux. Because the fluorides have an undesirably high melting point, while the iodides are relatively unstable.
