Arbeitet man ohne Dorn, so kann man Rohre beliebigen Durchmessers herstellen, wobei man die Genauigkeit bisher dadurch zu erreichen versuchte, daß man eine Anzahl Kaliberrollen hintereinander zur Einwirkung brachte, die im Verein mit innenliegenden Gegenrollen allmählich die Kreisform des Rohres, ausi dem 'erst flachen, dann im Querschnitt muldenförmigem Blechstreifen erzeugte. Immer bot es aber Schwierigkeiten, Rohre, insbesondere größeren Durchmessers und geringerer Wandstärke, herzustellen und die genau richtige Lage der Blechbänder für die Verschiwieißung einzuhalten. Außerdem zeigte sich bei den bisherigen Maschinen der Nachteil einer außerordentlich großen Baulänge, da entweder zahlreiche Rollensätze oder Roüensätze mit Walzen großen Durchmessers1 'erforderlich waren.When bending pipes from sheet metal strips, a wide variety of processes and machines adapted to these processes have already been used.
