Abstract

Methods and devices for transmitting and receiving frame timings and frame numbers via a common radio interface are disclosed, thereby radio frame timings and frame numbers of different Radio Access technologies (RATs) can be transmitted and received via the common radio interface. In accordance with a least common multiple relationship between a radio frame length and a CPRI common frame length, CPRI common frame periods, the number of which is C2, are selected to bear radio frames, the number of which is C1, for transmission in unit of the least common multiple period. The radio frame number is incremented by C1 upon each transmission in order for correct transmission of the radio frame numbers. Thus, determination of values of C2 and C1 can enable a uniform transmission of the radio frames with different lengths. Furthermore, control words for RATs with different frame lengths may indicate types of the radio frames. Extension frame numbers in CPRI frames are combined for distinctive description of a plurality of RATs, and radio frame number and timing information transmitted in a Sync byte, a hyper-frame-number control word and the like may be used to recover at an opposite end the radio frame number and timing information through a corresponding method.
