Abstract

The method involves determining a curve representative of relationship between the derivative of internal pressure in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine (2) and internal pressure during a cycle. Another curve is determined according to engine speed and a pre-registered data table. A third curve is determined according to two curves. A fourth curve, representative of emission rate of heat during the cycle, is determined according to difference between the former and third curve. Magnitudes representative of the combustion in the cylinder, are determined according to the fourth curve.
