Abstract
Inhibition of corrosion, due to the presence of naphthenic acids, in crude petroleum oils in refinery plant is achieved by addition of alkyl mercaptan(s) in which the mercaptan function is adjacent to a tertiary carbon. Inhibition of corrosion, due to the presence of naphthenic acids, in crude petroleum oils in refinery plant is achieved by addition of 4-20C alkyl mercaptan(s) of formula (I) . R 1-R 9 (identical or different) : H or alkyl, aryl or alkylaryl (optionally containing one or more heteroatoms such as O or S). [Image].
