SIEMENS & HALSKE in BERLIN. Fernsprechschaltung für Bahnbetrieb.SIEMENS & HALSKE in BERLIN. Telephone circuit for railway operations.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 17. Mai 1891 ab.Patented in the German Empire on May 17, 1891.
In the case of railways, especially those of minor importance, which seldom use the telegraph and prefer telephone traffic, the increase in telephones to be switched on one after the other on a route creates difficulties because the differentiation of the bell signals which apply to the individual telephone stations is all the more difficult It becomes more difficult the more numerous the microphone units are in a circuit. The call on such lines is expediently made with the acoustic signals taken from the Morse alphabet, whereby it must generally be excluded to pick up signals at several bell alarm clocks on one station at the same time. Rather, as a substitute, the lines had to be increased in order to produce various optical signals by means of drop flaps, which designate the individual points, and then to establish the connections necessary for the traffic of two points in the same system. The combination of several points by means of so-called central apparatus, along a path according to the scheme shown in Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawing, results in an undesirable increase in the lines, therefore causes increased costs and requires central apparatus in addition to the operating conditions that are not desired here more frequent use of such devices. Furthermore, an essential advantage of cascading telephone stations, which for the railways consists in the fact that a large number of stations (even if not all of them are in one operating system) are in constant direct call traffic, is lost. These disadvantages are to be eliminated by the arrangement of the telephone stations in the manner shown in FIG. As an example, a line is assumed which is formed from the main units A to G and the sub units α to u. The main stations are each provided with a telephone set, which is indicated in the diagram by strong dots and connected by a main line I; as well as the occupied in the same 'manner with a respective telephone extensions are connected by a common bypass II with one another, which line even to the main bodies enough there itself, however, leads to the earth. The main points, for example on the type of point E, ι of a depicted in Fig. 3 switching device, 2, 3,4 and 5 equipped, which allows the present there telephone set S, which is in the position of rest through the agency of the stoppers S 1 S 2 in the main line AG, in each of the secondary lines Im ... etc., st etc. and ki etc. to be switched on by taking one of the plugs S 1 or S 3 out of the pawl ι or 5, in which they are in the rest position, and inserted into the pawls 2, 3 or 4 When one of the plugs from 1 or 5 is removed, an alarm clock w switches on to the other side of the main line to avoid a call coming from this direction with a particularly noticeable tone, which is acoustically significantly different from that of the alarm clock of the telephone
The other main stations will be provided with a latch device in a corresponding manner; Fig. 4 shows this for the terminal G. The telephone set S is here connected with the plug S 3 through the jack 6 on the one hand to the line I, while on the other hand leads through plug S 4 the connection to earth. Line II is connected to earth through latch 7. If the plug S 3 is removed from the latch 6, the alarm clock w on line I.
Each of the extensions receives a switching device, as shown in Fig. 5, which in the rest position switches the telephone 5 into the secondary line by the fact that both power supply pins of the plug S 5 touch the pawls 11 and 12, while when the plug S 5 is between the Jacks 9 and 10 is plugged in, firstly the telephone set is switched on in the direct line, secondly the jacks 11 and 12 spring together so that they short-circuit the secondary line. Each extension can therefore come into direct contact with the locations of the main line, while this in turn, if necessary (which will only be the exception), can establish a connection with a different route of the secondary line, depending on requirements. As a result, one can speak, for example, from b, after this point has switched itself into the main line, to rh , after E or G has established the necessary connection with the section Ir of the secondary line.
