Sie brechen leicht und blättern ab.Melt powder for making relief-like prints and writings Zur
Creation of relief-like writing, e.g. on envelopes, letterheads
etc., two processes are used, the embossing process
and the so-called thermal printing process. With the embossing process, the writing
made by embossing and then overprinted with a color. Since the so generated
But if the writing can be easily re-indented, this procedure has been abandoned.
You can now achieve the same effect with a process that is often called thermal printing
referred to as. An ordinary printing ink is used to print in the usual way,
then sprinkled with a resin powder, which consists essentially of a mixture of
Dammar resin and Venitian turpentine, and warmed. This melts
the resin and thus leaves the relief-like writing on the printed areas. the
Relief-like writings or prints produced in this way still have the disadvantage
that they have insufficient elasticity. They break and peel off easily.
It has now been found that when using polymerization products of compounds which form the group CH. -C <, have prints and fonts produced that do not show this disadvantage. The procedure is, for example, as follows: A commercially available printing ink is used for printing in the usual manner as in planographic printing and the still moist print is then sprinkled with a polymerisation product of the type specified above in powder form. The powder adheres to the still moist print, while the excess material is removed by tapping. The paper with the publication is now slowly passed between two heated plates which are heated to temperatures which melt the polymerisation product. When it melts, the powder combines with the printing ink and in this way leaves behind the writing or the print as a relief. The fonts or prints produced in this way have good elasticity and a much stronger relief structure than the previous relief fonts. They no longer break or peel off. The stronger relief structure is of great importance for the production of Braille, for example. In this way it becomes possible to give the blind person a better idea of the size and shape of the drawing of any objects, etc. Very light and lightfast binders are used for the production of the printing inks. This means that very light, delicate and lightfast prints can be produced using the new process. The above-mentioned polymerization products from compounds containing the group C HZ - C <can therefore also be used with advantage as binders for printing inks, either by themselves or in combination with cellulose esters and ethers, because of their clear transparency and lightfastness. Products suitable for carrying out the process are, for example, the polymers of organic or inorganic esters of polyvinyl alcohol, of polyvinyl ethers, styrenes and derivatives, acrylic acid and its derivatives.
