Nachdem der Dampf das OeI bis zur nöthigen Temperatur vorgewärmt hat, wird durch Oeffnen des Hahnes f das eventuell condensirte Wasser entfernt. Sodann läfst man den Dampf durch das Ventil g in den Cylinderraum h ein und gelangt derselbe durch den Hahn i in den Oelbehälter α und gleichzeitig durch den Stutzen m nach einem den Dampfdruck anzeigenden Manometer. Durch den Druck, welchen der Dampf auf das in dem Raum α befindliche OeI ausübt, wird dasselbe in dem Dochtrohr k und dem Brennerrohr / in die Höhe getrieben; die Zuführung des Oeles nach einem in dem oberen Theile des Rohres k befindlichen Dochte Ar1 wird durch den Hahn η regulirt.
