Dieses rührt vor allem daher, daß zu Beginn des Auswalzens die flüssige Glasmasse zuerst mit .einer Seite der Walzen in Berührung kommt und diese daher einseitig erwärmt, so daß sie eine einseitige Ausdehnung und Durchbiegung erfahren; ferner auch daher, daß das Walzenmaterial der hohen Temperatur der Glasmasse, welcher es während des Walzens dauernd ausgesetzt ist, nicht genügend standhält. Um diesem Übelstand. entgegenzuwirken, ist es üblich, durch die Walzen ein, Heiz- bzw. Kühlmittel zu leiten, das die Walzen vor oder zu Anfang des Auswalzens anwärmt und während desselben kühlt.
